He Only Sees Where He Walks
The Sleeping Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

girl cries out into her achy hands
boy cares less, keeps feeding off her soul
he won't let her get herself some hope
she's afraid to let him let her go

boy explains that he's done nothing wrong
girl can't swim through all the shit he's talked
she's afraid to pack her bags and run
he holes lies under his tongue

yeah, leave that girl alone
she's better off with you gone

she's been neglected by a love that's been broken

all the letters that he wrote
have all been burned

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of The Sleeping's song He Only Sees Where He Walks describe a situation where a girl is desperately crying out for help, but the boy in her life seems to be oblivious to her pain. The girl is slowly losing herself and all her hopes due to the constant emotional feeding off of her soul by the boy. The boy won't let her gain any sort of hope and is afraid to let her go. The girl is scared to leave him and even more afraid to pack her bags and run.

The boy, on the other hand, feels like he has done nothing wrong and can't seem to comprehend the intense emotional trauma that he has put the girl through. He tries to explain himself, probably unaware that his words have no meaning and are falling on deaf ears. The girl can't bring herself to wade through the piles of lies that reside under the boy's tongue.

The chorus of the song speaks about how the girl is better off without the boy in her life. She has been neglected by a love that is broken, and all of the letters that the boy has written to her have been destroyed. Overall, the song is a powerful commentary on the emotional pain that individuals can inflict on each other in a relationship.

Exodus 20
King James Version
20 And God spake all these words, saying,

2 I am the Lord thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.

3 Thou shalt have no other gods before me.

4 Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth.

5 Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the Lord thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me;

6 And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments.

7 Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain; for the Lord will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.

8 Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.

9 Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work:

10 But the seventh day is the sabbath of the Lord thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates:

11 For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the Lord blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.

12 Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee.

13 Thou shalt not kill.

14 Thou shalt not commit adultery.

15 Thou shalt not steal.

16 Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour.

17 Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is thy neighbour's.

This plot is ridiculous:

Everybody in the cast is secretly dying of something that will kill them this week; And the killer justifies that he only kills people that are terminally ill… then immediately kills a bunch of cops in a vision. Oh and the killer is also dying of a terminal disease and wants to die but spends the whole movie trying to escape death until the end?!

@HemlockTea • 69d ago Huh? Did you even understand my comment? What "forceful unauthorized" euthanasia are you talking about? There is no such thing in any country anyway. I'm talking about countries that allow euthanasia only with the patients consent and not necessarily by main law but by some by-law that quite a few countries have. In order to understand you have to research those specific laws by country and not just in general.

I don't know what you looked up but by your comment you obviously "looked" in the wrong places. I've spent hours on end studying these laws country by country so if you think that I'm stupid by "making stuff up" it's your right, there's freedom of speech anyway. I could have given you many interesting links on this matter but I won't even waste my time on people who are quick to draw conclusions and are ironic.

Have a good day and goodbye.

HemlockTea • 69d ago

@ASTROVORTEX yeah I'm not finding a lot of countries where forceful unauthorized euthanasia without consent in ways that could endanger others (stray bullets, poisoning foodstuffs) is legal. I think you're just making stuff up.

ASTROVORTEX

@Mr Doctor More countries than you think. Type in "legality of euthanasia" and you'll be surprised.

Mr Doctor

He knew the risks that anytime he could die in the hands of someone else, so like a Daredevil, he went to kill the terminally ill ones but still, that of course doesn't justify his killings as no one gave him authority to relieve someone of one's pain. The concept of Euthanasia is very limited to certain countries and is done by very limited doctors only.
