1) a three-member folk-rock band from the UK.
Emily, Jessica, and Camilla Staveley-Taylor have been making music together since they were children, growing up in Watford, UK, England. Brought up in a house that echoed to the sounds of Simon & Garfunkel, Crosby, Stills & Nash and The Beatles, singing in perfect 3-part harmony came naturally to these three sisters.Having started gigging in local pubs and cafes, The Staves are now captivating audiences on much bigger stages - earning rapturous encores with their exquisite songs of love & longing. Guaranteed to give you goosebumps, their extraordinary intertwining voices melt the most cynical of hearts. The Staves' Mexico EP will be released later this year via Atlantic Records.

2) a baroque pop band from NYC.
"Simple, yet intellectually challenging. Gloomy, yet beautiful. Artistically sophisticated, yet starkly presented...." (Indie-music.com)
"There are very few artists that consistently give me goosebumps. New York's Soren Anders [of The Staves] positively fits within this elite category. Over the last year, his stunning vocals and heartbreakingly beautiful melodies have won me over in a major way...." (The Music Slut Blog)

In The Long Run
The Staves Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
The city sirens keep me awake
And I know
I’ll see you again in the long run
People they tell me I should be careful
That you’ll worry, and I’m already miles away
But I know
I’ll see you again in the long run
And I know
I’ll meet you again in the long run
But we can’t be lovers
‘Cause I’m still afraid
Of leaving the things I love dearly.
I wander, I roam, I write home to tell you
That I’m sorry,
I won’t leave it this late again.
But I know
I’ll see you again in the long run
And I know
I’ll meet you again in the long run
But I can’t be married
You’ll take me away
From everything that I love dearly
And we can’t be lovers
You’ll take me away from my home
My home
My home
But I know
I’ll see you again in the long run
The lyrics to The Staves’ “In The Long Run” tell the story of a person who is torn between their love for someone and their love for their current lifestyle. The first verse sets the scene of the singer lying next to their lover while the sounds of the city keep them awake. The chorus expresses the sentiment that the singer knows they will see their lover again in the long run despite their fear to fully commit. The second verse explains that others warn the singer about the potential harm their lover could cause, but again, the chorus reassures both the singer and the listener that they will meet again in due time. But the final verse establishes the root of the conflict between the two: the singer’s hesitation to leave their current life behind from fear of what they will lose. Ultimately, the final chorus affirms that they will see each other again, but that they can’t be lovers because of the dissonance between their personal lives.
The song, in general, is about the idea that distance and career goals can create a divide between two people who love each other. However, the hope is that despite that divide, they will meet again in the long run. The message they're sending is that even though they aren’t ready to commit to a future with each other currently, there’s still value in their present relationship. In a way, the song is paradoxical – the struggle between finding long-term love and keeping true to oneself.
