Founded in Detroit, Michigan, United States in 1959, The Supremes began as a quartet called The Primettes. Founding members Florence Ballard, Mary Wilson, Diana Ross, and Betty McGlown, all from the Brewster-Douglas public housing project in Detroit, were the sister act to The Primes (later The Temptations). In 1960, Barbara Martin replaced McGlown, and the group signed with Motown in 1961 as The Supremes. Martin left at the end of 1961, and Ross, Ballard, and Wilson carried on as a trio. After they achieved success in the mid-1960s with Ross as the lead singer, Motown president Berry Gordy renamed the group Diana Ross & the Supremes in 1967, and replaced Ballard with Cindy Birdsong. Ross left the group for a solo career in 1970, and was replaced by Jean Terrell. After 1972, the lineup of the Supremes changed frequently, with Lynda Laurence, Scherrie Payne, and Susaye Greene all becoming members before the group ended its eighteen-year existence in 1977.

I’ll see you in the morning
Roses red and violets blue but Im gonna ignore them
I been focused on these M’s my life been gettin boring
Depression, stress, etc since a nigga bein open
Hang up girl don’t call me
Don’t call me
Hang up girl don’t call me
Hang up girl don’t call me
Don’t call me
Hang up girl don’t call me
Don’t call me
I been having all thoughts lately
I don’t know why
Think back on those days in the Nissan, we would go ride
Jump into the future, you the past, sad I know right
Conversations bout a stone, now that shit don’t feel right
Cut my heart ain’t heal right
Think I need a surgeon I
Take this cup to numb the pain
Dark liquor gonna heal minds
Grab the knife and stabbed me I don’t know why you keep tellin lies
Like if you ever cut again I take the 9 and blow ya mind
Call my line
Lil shorty, don’t call my line
Waste my time
Yeah you always waste my time
When I make it lil shorty please don’t call my line
Don't call my line, don't call my line
Hang up girl don’t call me
I’ll see you in the morning
Roses red and violets blue but Im gonna ignore them
I been focused on these M’s my life been gettin boring
Depression, stress, etc since a nigga bein open
Hang up girl don’t call me
Don’t call me
Hang up girl don’t call me
Don’t call me
Hang up girl don’t call me
Don’t call me
Hang up girl don’t call me
Don’t call me
The lyrics of "Call Me" by The Supremes is a narrative of a person's thoughts and feelings towards a past love interest. The singer acknowledges the roses and violet sent by the ex-lover but tells the person not to contact them by phone. The singer has other pressing concerns such as making money and dealing with mental health issues such as depression and stress. The song reflects the feeling of the singer that the past relationship was getting in the way of their current goals and progress.
The lines, "I don't know why, think back on those days in the Nissan, we would go ride, Jump into the future, you're the past, sad, I know right" is an indication that the singer is moving on with life and does not want to dwell on the past. The use of the word "Nissan" is a reference to the type of car they used to ride, indicating fond memories of the past shared with the lover. However, the person sees that the future is more important and wants to focus on making money and dealing with mental health issues.

What a reassuring confident lead vocal by Diana. Recorded one month before "where did our love go" in March 64.
