The Grass
The Three Degrees Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴

Every time you kiss my lips,
I feel them quiver (quiver)
Ooh, and every time you hold me in your arms,
I seem to shiver (shiver)

There's nothing to be afraid of
It's flesh and blood that we're made of
Trust in me, baby
Baby, won't you trust in me?

And the grass will sing for you
The sky will turn a brand new shade of blue for you
And in your heart, you feel a glow
That's when you'll know
My love for you
(the grass will sing for you, my love)

Every time you whisper words of love,
I start crying
Well, are those tears of joy?
Should I really think that you're lying?

I'll give you love without sorrow
Together, together we'll find tomorrow
Trust in me, oh baby
Baby, won't you trust in me?

And the grass will sing for you
The sky will turn a brand new shade of blue just for you
And in your heart, you feel a glow
That's when you'll know

My love for you
(the grass will sing for you, my love)

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to The Three Degrees's song "The Grass Will Sing For You" convey a sense of vulnerability and trust in a romantic relationship. The singer expresses the physical and emotional reactions they experience when they are with their partner. Every time they kiss, their lips quiver, and when held in their partner's arms, they shiver. These physical sensations indicate the deep connection and intensity of their love.

The lyrics also highlight the importance of trust in the relationship. The singer reassures their partner that there is nothing to be afraid of because they are both made of flesh and blood. They plead with their partner to trust them, emphasizing the depth of their feelings by stating that when that trust is established, even the grass will sing for them.

There is an element of uncertainty and vulnerability in the lyrics as well. The singer wonders if the tears they shed when their partner whispers words of love are tears of joy or if there is a possibility of their partner lying to them. Despite this uncertainty, the singer promises to give their love without sorrow and looks toward a future where they can find happiness together.

Overall, the lyrics of "The Grass Will Sing For You" convey a powerful message about the longing for trust and the intense emotions experienced in a romantic relationship. It captures the vulnerability, uncertainty, and hope for a lasting love.

I agree. We always heard Sheila and Valerie. Fayette has a beautiful voice. Very rare that every one in a group can sing lead. These ladies are the best.

We often hear Sheila, or Valerie, but, what a treat it is to hear Fayette! What a beautiful voice. I am more than convinced that the Three Degrees were compromised of some of the BEST female vocalists around! Not even the Supremes can compare or come close. Bravo Faye! Surely she is singing praises to the Lord now that she resides with Him in Heaven! Thank You, ytgm00!

Hi Karen, listen to 'Isn't it a pity', by Three Degrees, lead vocals by Fayette! Written by George Harrison....a truly beautiful display of their perfect harmonies!

@unitingfriendsradio

The best soprano the Three Degrees ever had. Nothing - and noone - can compare to the sound of Faye, Sheila and Val - the creme de la creme of The Three Degrees xxxx
