I Came All This Way
The Thrills Lyrics

Those smug lovers they might as well just rub it in my face.
I guess that's when the penny finally dropped
You're as clueless as i am.
Those backseat fumblings oooh no. oh no. oh no. oh no.
But now I know I'll never be someone else someone else.
Now I know I'll never be someone else somebody else not for a long time.
I came all this way just to say my feelings have grown
I long to hold you in my arms
While your boyfriend place your eyes on someone elses life then pass it off as his own
But when the world finds out oh yes oh yes oh yes oh yes.
But now I know I'll never be someone else someone else.
But now I know I'll never be someone else somebody else, not for a long time.
You know you know you know.
La la la la you know you know you know.
But now I know I'll never be someone else someone else
Now I know I'll never be someone else somebody else, not for a long time.
You know you know you know (I came all this way just to say la la la la la )
You know you know you know (I came all this way just to say)
Someday I'll be someone else.
The Thrills's song "I Came All This Way" is a melancholic pop tune about unrequited love and self-realization. The lyrics depict the singer's journey to confess their feelings to someone they care about, only to realize that it's too late and that they can't change who they are. The line "I came all this way just to say that's not what I want" suggests that the singer's journey is not just a physical one but a mental one as well. They have come to terms with their feelings and realized the futility of trying to be someone else to please someone else. The cynical line "Those smug lovers they might as well just rub it in my face" indicates the singer's bitterness towards other people's happiness.
The singer's realization that they are "clueless" and that their desires and insecurities are not unique is a moment of reckoning. The line "But now I know I'll never be someone else somebody else, not for a long time" suggests that while the singer has accepted their true self, they are not ready to be that person yet. The jarring line "While your boyfriend place your eyes on someone else's life then pass it off as his own" exposes the facade of social media and the superficiality of modern society. The singer realizes that they don't want to be someone else judging their worth based on likes and followers.
Overall, "I Came All This Way" is a poignant reflection on the struggle to be true to oneself in a world that constantly judges and compares. The song's bittersweet melody and poetic lyrics capture the complex emotions of unrequited love and self-discovery.
