Tie Me Down
The Turtles Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

See how it feels, take a breath
Cast away now to the deep, dark and still
Fill me up, let it linger
Lay me down

I see the stars around me
A waterfall surrounds me
I see the blue below me
So small, so sad and only whirl
Lay me down

Now, I can dance
For my eyes see you only
Everything left too soon
Take my hand, lead me slowly
Take a sip of the wound
Ripple deep, see me only
Lay me down

I see the stars around me
A waterfall surrounds me
I see the blue below me
So small, so sad and only whirl
Lay me down

I see the stars around me
A waterfall surrounds me
I see the blue below me
So small, so sad and only whirl
Lay me down

Lay me down again, lay me down
Lay me down again, lay me down

Lay me down again, lay me down
Lay me down again, lay me down

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to The Turtles' song "Tie Me Down" evoke a sense of surrender and vulnerability. The opening lines "See how it feels, take a breath" suggest a desire to experience something new or unfamiliar. The use of the phrase "Cast away now to the deep, dark and still" creates imagery of being abandoned or detached from the world. There is a longing to be filled with something, as expressed in the line "Fill me up, let it linger." And finally, the repeated phrase "Lay me down" reinforces a yearning to let go and relinquish control.

In the subsequent verse, the lyrics paint a picture of the singer's surroundings. The stars and the waterfall seem to symbolize beauty and wonder that exist beyond oneself. The mention of the blue below, however, adds a sense of sadness and insignificance, emphasizing the singer's small place in the world. The phrase "so small, so sad and only whirl" implies a feeling of being overwhelmed and lost in life's currents.

As the song progresses, the lyrics take on a more hopeful tone. The singer declares "Now, I can dance" suggesting a newfound freedom or joy. The line "For my eyes see you only" conveys a deep sense of focus and devotion, possibly to a loved one. The mention of things ending too soon suggests a longing for more time or a regret for missed opportunities. The imagery of taking a sip of the wound symbolizes a willingness to embrace pain or sorrow in order to grow.

The repetition of the lines "I see the stars around me, a waterfall surrounds me" serves to emphasize the continued presence of beauty and wonder in the singer's life. However, the inclusion of the phrase "so small, so sad and only whirl" reminds us that these moments of awe and inspiration are fleeting and bittersweet.

In the final repetition of the chorus and closing lines, "Lay me down again, lay me down," there is a sense of acceptance and surrender. The singer seems resigned to their fate, seeking solace in letting go and allowing themselves to be laid to rest. It can be interpreted as a metaphorical release from the burdens and pressures of life, a desire to find peace and tranquility. Ultimately, the lyrics capture the complex emotions of longing, appreciation, and acceptance in the face of life's unpredictability.

Ok Hatter. I’m only 5 seconds in and I just have to say of all the unboxing videos wouldn’t this be the best one to be wearing your channel 6 hat? Lol

Awesome Review, This set looks amazing & I'm so excited & can't wait to get mine which just got shipped out today, I live in Canada, so I'm hoping I can get mine before Christmas 🤞

The Channel 6 News team looks great, but I have a feeling I won't get mine for awhile... I ordered mine with the Turtles in Disguise pack. Since I never saw the Turtles in Disguise in stores, I was glad to be able to get it with this news team pack.

Hopefully we get Tiffany a well as various human thugs/mobsters that the Turtles often dealt with.

REDHOOD THE TURTLE

I’m very happy with the material blend of the shirt. I can’t stand 100% cotton!

Nathen McGuire

Will these be hitting stores or only if we pre-ordered from NECA s window..?
