They appeared on the cover of Rolling Stone in October 2002 (the first Australian band to do so since Men at Work in 1983) with the words "Rock is Back: meet the Vines" boldly emblazoned underneath. Referred to as the 'The' bands, The Strokes, The Hives, The White Stripes and The Vines combined "old fashioned punk and adrenaline fuelled riffs" to be ushered in at the beginning of 2002 as the "saviors of rock".
The Vines have been moderately successful in the Australian recording industry, winning an ARIA in 2002 for Breakthrough Artist and receiving nominations for six other awards in as many years. In 2003, their debut album Highly Evolved went double platinum in their home country of Australia, and since then the band has released six albums and a "Best-Of" compilation from their time at Capitol Records.
The band started to record their 5th album in February 2010. The album recording was completely finished in mid March, with mixing taking place in Sydney at the end of March and mastering taking place in early April. The album, "Future Primitve," was released in June 2011.

Don't Go
The Vines Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Walking on the ground I've been
Waiting for the day to start
Cause somethings got me all alone
Oh no don't go
Throw away undo it play the bass
I know if she'd gone
Take the weight up off your mind
Dreaming for the seventh time
If we wake now we'll believe
Either way it's fun to dream
Oh no don't go
Throw away undo it play the bass
I know but she'd done
Gonna be left on this place now
The lyrics of The Vine's song "Don't Go" seem to express a sense of loneliness and longing for a connection with someone. The opening lines, "taking everything I see, walking on the ground I've been, waiting for the day to start" convey a feeling of being stuck in one's own routine and wanting something more. The next line, "cause somethings got me all alone," reinforces this sense of isolation.
The chorus of "Oh no don't go, throw away undo it play the bass" is somewhat cryptic, as the meaning of "undo it play the bass" is not entirely clear. It may be a reference to music or a metaphor for something else entirely. The second part of the chorus, "I know if she'd gone, want to be left on this place now" suggests that the singer is afraid of being left behind or abandoned.
The second verse begins with "take the weight up off your mind, dreaming for the seventh time," which could refer to the idea of escaping from reality and finding solace in one's dreams. The line "if we wake now we'll believe, either way it's fun to dream" highlights the temporary nature of dreams and the idea that they offer a brief respite from the challenges of waking life.
Overall, the lyrics of "Don't Go" suggest a complex mix of emotions, including loneliness, fear of abandonment, and a desire for escape from one's everyday routine. The song seems to capture a universal feeling of yearning for connection and meaning.
