They appeared on the cover of Rolling Stone in October 2002 (the first Australian band to do so since Men at Work in 1983) with the words "Rock is Back: meet the Vines" boldly emblazoned underneath. Referred to as the 'The' bands, The Strokes, The Hives, The White Stripes and The Vines combined "old fashioned punk and adrenaline fuelled riffs" to be ushered in at the beginning of 2002 as the "saviors of rock".
The Vines have been moderately successful in the Australian recording industry, winning an ARIA in 2002 for Breakthrough Artist and receiving nominations for six other awards in as many years. In 2003, their debut album Highly Evolved went double platinum in their home country of Australia, and since then the band has released six albums and a "Best-Of" compilation from their time at Capitol Records.
The band started to record their 5th album in February 2010. The album recording was completely finished in mid March, with mixing taking place in Sydney at the end of March and mastering taking place in early April. The album, "Future Primitve," was released in June 2011.

Don't Listen To The Radio
The Vines Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Hear something that ya ready know
I got no radio
Don't speak upon the telephone
Hear somethin' that you're never shown
I got no telephone
(Oh yeah I say)
Get out the way today
(Oh yeah I say)
Don't listen to the TV show
Feel someone that you ready know
I got no T.V.O
Get out the way today
(Oh yeah I say)
Get out the way today
(Oh yeah I say)
The Vines's song "Don't Listen To The Radio" is a rebellious ode to living life on one's own terms, free from the influence of mainstream media and mass culture. The song warns listeners not to blindly follow what they hear on the radio, see on TV, or discuss on the phone. Instead, the lyrics encourage us to open our senses to the world around us and not be afraid to be different.
The lines "Don't listen to the radio, hear something that ya ready know/I got no radio" suggest that the song's protagonist is tired of the same old songs on the radio and wants to explore different genres or even discover new talents. Similarly, the line "Don't speak upon the telephone, hear somethin' that you're never shown/I got no telephone" implies that the singer might be trying to distance themselves from distractions that can take away from their own thoughts and experiences. The lines "Don't listen to the TV show, feel someone that you really know/I got no T.V.O" echo this sentiment of avoiding the artificial stimulation and superficiality offered by TV.
The chorus, "Get out the way today," is a call to action, urging listeners not to be complacent or conformist, but rather to actively seek out their own path and not let anyone or anything hold them back. The song's fast-paced and energetic guitar riffs reflect this sense of urgency and rebellion.

I get that it's nostalgic, but how does that make this event ironic? Irony may not mean what you might think it does.
