Overall Meaning

The lyrics of The White Stripes's song "Astro" are somewhat abstract and open to interpretation, but they seem to be referencing a dance or performance called the "astro," which various individuals, including Jasper, Lily, Jackson, Momma, and Tessler, may or may not participate in. It's unclear exactly what the astro entails or why these people are singled out as potentially involved, but the repetition of their names and the phrase "astro" create a hypnotic, almost ritualistic effect.

One possible interpretation of the lyrics is that the astro is a kind of communal, ecstatic celebration, and that by naming these different individuals, the song is suggesting that everyone has a role to play in this shared experience. Alternatively, it's possible that the astro is a more competitive or individualistic activity, and that the repeated "maybe" suggests that these people are uncertain whether they are capable of performing it successfully. Either way, the song seems to be exploring themes of identity, belonging, and self-discovery, and using the astro as a kind of symbolic framework for these ideas.

on Candy Cane Children

The meaning of this song is basically saying the older you get, the less fun Christmas becomes usually do to adulthood. The lines "don't you know your name?...", probably refers to the adults telling kids to grow up as if they're saying "Do you know how old you are? You're getting too old for this stuff." Probably why he put the lines "nobody knows how to talk to children". Also, he puts the lines "think again" after a thought of one of the kids thinking of wishing to participate in Christmas activities. As if they're thinking "Yeah I probably AM too old for this.." "364 more tears girl" the sadness of getting older. Not participating feels like a missed opportunity and causes even more sadness..
