The group first formed in July 2009 after Ross and Walker left Panic! At The Disco, citing creative differences. The duo released their first new track, "Change" via MySpace on July 28, 2009 while shopping around for a record label to release their debut album. In October 2009, another new track, "The Other Girl" was previewed on Mark Ronson's show on East Village Radio. Band members Murray and Soukal joined in December 2009 and White was added to the lineup soon after.
In March 2010, The Young Veins were signed with One Haven Music and not long after, re-released their first single "Change" via iTunes on April 5, 2010 and subsequent singles "Take a Vacation!" and "Everyone But You" in May 2010. Their first full-length album, entitled Take A Vacation! was released on June 8, 2010. It was recorded at Castle Oak Studios and Sunset Sound in Los Angeles, CA. Several tracks were produced by Rob Mathes while the others were produced by Alex Greenwald.
On December 10th 2010 the band announced they were going on indefinite hiatus.

A word for fun
We have the time of our lives every night
Like it's our job to lose our minds every night
But if I were to die tonight
Would you cry or deny my place in your life
I'm aware that you're scared of my heart
Is young a word for dumb?
A word for fun
We have the time of our lives every night
Like it's our job to lose our minds every night
It's the same
Go to sleep with our blame
And the shame is enough to separate us
But we can't help ourselves
We're in love
And it really hurts when it's wrong
Is young a word for dumb
A word for fun
We have the time of our lives every night
Like it's our job to lose our minds
And it's every night
We have the time
Like it's our job
To lose our minds
Every night
The lyrics of The Young Veins's song "Young Veins" explore the theme of youth and the reckless, carefree nature that often accompanies it. The repetition of the question "Is young a word for dumb?" suggests a reflection on the naivety and impulsiveness that can be associated with being young. The singer acknowledges that they are having the time of their lives every night, as if it is their duty to let go and lose themselves.
The lyrics also touch on the fear and uncertainty that can arise when it comes to matters of the heart. The line "I'm aware that you're scared of my heart, but it's there" indicates that the singer understands their partner's hesitation or fear, but still believes in the authenticity and strength of their own emotions.
The chorus reinforces the idea that youth is characterized by both foolishness and enjoyment. The repetition of the phrase "We have the time of our lives every night, like it's our job to lose our minds every night" emphasizes the overwhelming desire to live in the moment and embrace the freedom that comes with youth.
Overall, the lyrics depict the bittersweetness of young love and the conflicting emotions that can arise when passion is involved. It captures the exhilaration and pain that often coexist within youthful experiences.
