Still going on?
Why is this buying and selling
Still going on?
In this 'ya human market place
In this 'ya human market place
This is a human market place
Human market place
The lyrics of Third World's song Human Market Place shed light on the dehumanizing practice of buying and selling human beings. The singer wonders why such a practice still exists. Although slavery was abolished centuries ago, various forms of human trafficking and exploitation still occur globally. By referring to the practice as a "human market place," the singer highlights the commodification of human life, where individuals are reduced to mere objects to be bought and sold.
The repetition of the phrase "why is this buying and selling still going on?" emphasizes the singer's disbelief and frustration at the persistence of this practice. The chorus accentuates the idea of a human market place as an actual location, where individuals are exploited and sold off. The use of the word 'ya' before human market place is indicative of the Jamaican dialect and gives a sense of urgency to the situation. Overall, the lyrics echo the call to end human trafficking and exploitation globally, emphasizing that no human being should be subjected to the inhumane practice of being bought and sold.
