Stables has been turning heads in all the right places since 2003: a first album Krülle Bol produced by John Parish , singles (Two Wooden Spoons) released by Rob da Bank’s label Sunday Best and a long-awaited second album on Dreamboat Records in 2010. Wriggle out the Restless was born out of a new, slower way of working. Gestated over a long period the album has drawn on This Is The Kit’s many musical friends (Rozi Plain [[label]Fence ], Jim Barr [of Portishead ] Francois [Fence] and The Liftmen [[label]Twisted Nerve]) to fill out their delicate music into a full, robust sound. “The aim was to have fun playing with people who’s work I really like” says Kate “the more you exchange and share with people the better things get and the more you learn.”
This Is The Kit perform regularly as a two-piece with Stables on vocals, guitar and banjo, and Vernon on violin, guitar, bass and percussion.

Moths
This Is the Kit Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Don't know this weight this weight
And the sun hits the tarmac making her horison dance, dance
And it wobbles
With the lack of wind and the heat of noon
And my eyes will be quick
And my feet will be fast
These ears don't know this sound and this skin doesn't know this light
And the moths
Have all fallen away from the moon
And my eyes will be quick
And my feet will be fast
And ill be paying attentions soon
The lyrics of "Moths" by This Is the Kit depict a sense of unfamiliarity and disorientation. The singer describes how their feet and knees don't recognize the ground they are standing on, indicating a state of being in a new or unfamiliar place. The weight of this new experience seems heavy and overwhelming to them, as symbolized by the line "Don't know this weight this weight."
The mention of the sun hitting the tarmac and making the horizon dance suggests a shimmering effect, possibly due to the heat. The lack of wind intensifies this sensation, amplifying the disorienting nature of the environment. The singer's eyes will be quick and their feet will be fast, implying a heightened state of alertness and readiness. They are preparing to pay attention to their surroundings and adapt to this new situation.
The second verse continues the theme of unfamiliarity as the singer mentions that their ears don't recognize the sound and their skin doesn't know this light. This further emphasizes the sense of disconnection from their surroundings. The reference to moths falling away from the moon adds a touch of melancholy, as moths are typically attracted to light and the moon is commonly associated with romance and inspiration. This suggests that the singer feels detached from any sources of guidance or inspiration in this unfamiliar place.
Overall, "Moths" conveys a sense of being out of place and adapting to new surroundings. The lyrics reflect the disorientation and struggle to find familiarity and meaning in an unfamiliar environment.
