The original lineup consisted of Stuart Smith on rhythm guitar and vocals, Tim Collis on lead guitar, Simon Thompson on Drums and Ian Lewis on Bass. Ian and Simon left the band in 2005, to be replaced by Dan Adams (replaced by Jamie Cooper during the recording of Animals in 2008) on bass and Chris Collis (brother of guitarist Tim) on drums in early 2006. In earlier careers, bassist Jamie Cooper had worked as a graphic designer, drummer Chris Collis had been a librarian at the University of Oxford, guitarist Tim Collis was a primary school teacher, and lead vocalist Stuart Smith worked building websites for a publisher. On May 11, 2011, it was announced on This Town Needs Guns' website that lead singer Stuart Smith would be leaving the band to start a family, and that he would be replaced by Pennines' singer and guitarist, Henry Tremain. Bassist Jamie Cooper also left the band in late 2011 to focus on a full-time career in graphic design. Tremain has since taken over on bass guitar duties, converting the band into a power trio.
The band's second and third studio albums, 13.0.0.0.0 and Disappointment Island, were released in January 2013 and July 2016, both via Sargent House.

This Town Needs Guns Lyrics

One more chance to second guess your thoughts.
My friends said that you would be a tough nut to crack.
Come back lets settle this upâŠ
âŠand down my spine,
the faint tingle keeps me up at night.
So while you dream I lie awake and look to the stars
Once more in to breaches I cannot gap.
One more chance to second guess your thoughts.
My friends said that you would be a tough nut to crack.
Come back lets settle this up.
Like earth and dust
Weâre one and the same; insignificant.
Well who am I to presume that we were all but gone?
Perpetually complexing the simple. I for one am done.
You brought this on yourself.
Our problems had enough time on the shelf.
We made the same mistakes,
lived our lives without the give and the take.
The time we spent apart
served to remind me of when weâd talk.
My one and sole regret
are the thoughts that went left unsaid.
The lyrics of This Town Needs Guns's song Gibbon convey a sense of regret and second-guessing that emanates from a difficult relationship. The opening lines "Once more in to breaches I cannot gap. / One more chance to second guess your thoughts" illustrate the singer's feelings of powerlessness and uncertainty. Despite his previous attempts and failures to bridge the gap in their relationship, the singer is given one more chance to confront their issues. The line "My friends said that you would be a tough nut to crack" suggests that the other person in the relationship may be difficult to understand and communicate with.
The lyrics then shift to a description of the singer's emotions, as he admits that "the faint tingle keeps me up at night" and finds himself "locked in your arms." The line "Perpetually complexing the simple. I for one am done" seems to suggest frustration and confusion with the intricacies of the relationship. The singer seems to be resigned to the fact that things may not work out, as he states "who am I to presume that we were all but gone?" However, he also expresses regret for not having communicated his thoughts and feelings more effectively, as he laments "my one and sole regret are the thoughts that went left unsaid."
Overall, the song Gibbon conveys a sense of sadness and introspection, as the singer grapples with the challenges of a difficult relationship and the potential loss of a connection that was once important to him.
