and this would later determine his choice of singing and writing in English.
Despite having no musical background in his family, Tiago started playing the acoustic guitar at age 8.
In 2007 his unpretentious acoustic single 'Nothing but a Song' drew attention to
his voice and led to the release of his debut album Let Yourself In, which gained notoriety after several of Tiago's songs were featured on major Brazilian primetime soap operas, TV ads and films. Tiago soon started touring across the country and in 2009 was Jason Mraz's Brazilian Tour opening act.
Let Yourself In was also released in Japan, where 'Nothing But a Song' peaked at number 11 on Billboard's Japan HOT 100 Chart, and in South Korea, where the public granted Tiago a Best Foreign Artist Award for his performance at the 2010 Grand Mint Festival. Another single — 'Fine' — featured on the popular South Korean TV series Personal Taste.
His second studio album Umbilical — which had New York-based Andy Chase as producer — was simultaneously released in Brazil, South Korea and Portugal on October 2011. Digital releases in the United States and Japan followed shortly after.
The Umbilical Tour had it's debut on March 14th at the 2012 South by Southwest Music Festival in Austin, Texas, and included performances in Portugal and over 20 sold out dates in Brazil.
Do Que Você Tem Medo
Tiago Iorc Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Que dor é essa que te deixa azedo
Todo culpado tem culpa na ponta do dedo
Quem pode apontar que pobre 'tá preso
E essa ganancia fria
Será que te sacia?
Muito pouco e tudo leva a nada
A crueldade tonta
Só vão nos apartar
Quem planta o ódio escolhe o medo
Quem é que vai sentir?
Se a rua escorre sangue negro
Quem é que vai fingir?
Eh eh eh
Um labirinto de esperanças, genes ancestrais
O amor extinto já não tinge mais
O canto ainda ecoa dentro de você
E essa ganancia fria
Será que te sacia?
Muito pouco e tudo leva a nada
A crueldade tonta
As falsas noticias
Só vão nos apartar
Quem planta o ódio escolhe o medo
Quem é que vai fingir?
Se a rua escorre sangue negro
Quem é que vai sentir?
Ah, quem planta o ódio escolhe o medo
Quem é que vai fingir?
Se a rua escorre sangue negro
Quem é que vai fingir?
Eh eh eh
In Tiago Iorc's song "Do Que Você Tem Medo," the lyrics convey a powerful message about the consequences of fear and hatred in society. The first verse talks about how lies stem from fear and cause unease. It also highlights how guilt is often projected onto others, and those who are oppressed are the ones who are blamed. The emphasis on greed and its inability to provide true satisfaction is highlighted, as it ultimately leads to emptiness and nothingness. The lyrics also touch on the foolishness of cruelty and the division caused by false news.
The chorus further explores the idea that those who sow hatred are making a choice born out of fear. It questions who will bear the burden of their actions, posing the question of who will pretend not to feel the consequences when the streets are steeped in violence and discrimination. This highlights the disconnect between those who partake in spreading hatred and the true impact it has on marginalized communities.
The second verse introduces the concept of a labyrinth of hopes and ancestral genes, implying a sense of underlying potential and collective history. However, it also mentions how love, once vibrant and influential, no longer has the power to bring about meaningful change. The repetition of the line "and the song still echoes inside you" suggests that hope and the desire for a better world remain within individuals despite the challenges.
The chorus is repeated, emphasizing the choice to sow hatred and the inevitable consequences. It asks who will pretend not to feel when the streets are stained with the blood of the oppressed. The repetition of the phrase "eh eh eh" throughout the song adds an emotional and cathartic element, highlighting the urgency of the message.
Overall, the lyrics of "Do Que Você Tem Medo" serve as a powerful critique of fear, greed, hatred, and the divisive nature of false information. It calls for introspection and challenges listeners to recognize the impact of their choices on society. The song emphasizes the importance of empathy, unity, and love in the face of adversity.
