Violinists Zacahary DePue and Nicolas Kendall first discovered their mutual love of fiddling in the country/western and bluegrass styles. Then bassist Ranaan Meyer introduced them both to his deep roots in jazz and improvisation. After considerable experimentation, the three officially formed Time for Three, or TF3 for short.
TF3 has since become an outlet for these young artists to meet on common ground in a nontraditional blending of their talents. The trio's first and self-titled CD was released in October 2002. TF3 became affiliated with Astral Artistic Services upon winning Astral's 2003 National Auditions. Since then, TF3 has performed in an enormous variety of settings, including some that are appropriately less traditional.
In January 2010, TF3 released its first commercial CD, Three Fervent Travelers, on the E1 label. It was an instant success, debuting in the top 10 on Billboard, Amazon and iTunes, and remaining in the top 10 on the Billboard Crossover Charts for more than 10 months.

Blackbird
Time For Three Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Take these broken wings and learn to fly
All your life
You were only waiting for this moment to arise
Black bird singing in the dead of night
Take these sunken eyes and learn to see
All your life
Blackbird fly, blackbird fly
Into the light of the dark black night.
Blackbird fly, blackbird fly
Into the light of the dark black night.
Blackbird singing in the dead of night
Take these broken wings and learn to fly
All your life
You were only waiting for this moment to arise,
You were only waiting for this moment to arise,
You were only waiting for this moment to arise
The lyrics of "Blackbird" by Time For Three carry a message of hope and encouragement. The blackbird, a symbol of freedom and resilience, is calling out in the dead of night, urging us to rise up and overcome our own obstacles. The broken wings and sunken eyes represent the struggles and limitations that we all face in life, but the bird's call to "learn to fly" and "learn to see" is a reminder that we are capable of overcoming these challenges and achieving our goals.
The repetition of the phrase "all your life, you were only waiting for this moment to arise" emphasizes the idea that we have been preparing for this moment of transformation all along. The darkness of the night and the use of the word "black" emphasize the heavy burden that we bear, but also suggest that there is a light at the end of the tunnel. The final repetition of the phrase "you were only waiting for this moment to arise" drives home the message that we can and will overcome.
In summary, the lyrics of "Blackbird" encourage us to face our challenges head-on and to never give up. The blackbird is a symbol of hope, freedom, and resilience, and its call to "fly into the light of the dark black night" inspires us to embrace our own inner strength and soar to new heights.
