Their debut album, The Airing of Grievances, was released on the Troubleman Unlimited record label on April 14, 2008 to many positive reviews. The album's loud, heavily distorted guitars are influenced by shoegaze, while the lyrics and song titles are references to various books and other forms of entertainment (such as the album title, from the Seinfeld episode, "The Strike", about Festivus). The Airing of Grievances was reissued on January 20, 2009 on XL Recordings.
The band's second album, The Monitor, was released on March 9, 2010 through XL Recordings to wide critical acclaim, and was cited as one of the best indie albums of the year.
The band has a sizable list of former members, the latest of which, Amy Klein, left the band on October 24, 2011.
Tumult Around The World
Titus Andronicus Lyrics

Tumult around the world
Everywhere there's someone suffering
Tumult around the world
Everywhere there's someone hurting
Someone lower on the chain
Everywhere there's someone using
Everywhere there's someone finding
Something isn't really fair
Everywhere there's someone hiding
From the tumult everywhere
Tumult around the world
Tumult around the world
Everywhere there's someone suffering
Tumult around the world
Oh yeah
Everywhere there's someone dying
There's a woman giving birth
Everywhere there's someone crying
There's tumult around the earth
That everywhere there's people dreaming
People only ever hope
People praying for deliverance
From tumult around the globe
Everywhere there's someone talking
Trying to put another down
They should run instead of walking
From the tumult all around
Tumult around the world
Tumult around the world
Everywhere there's someone suffering, oh yeah
Tumult around the world
Tumult around the world
Tumult around the world
Tumult around the world
Everywhere there's someone suffering
Tumult around the world
Tumult around the world
Tumult around the world
Everywhere there's someone suffering, oh yeah
Tumult around the world
Tumult around the world
Tumult around the world
Everywhere there's someone suffering, oh yeah
Tumult around the world
Tumult around the world (Everywhere there's someone suffering)
Tumult around the world (Everywhere there's someone suffering)
Tumult around the world (Everywhere there's someone suffering)
Tumult around the world (Everywhere there's someone suffering)
Oh yeah
The song "Tumult Around The World" by Titus Andronicus is a call to action for society to recognize the suffering and oppression faced by people all over the world. The title of the song refers to the chaos and disorder that exist in every corner of the globe, representing the struggles that people face in their daily lives. The repetition of the phrase "everywhere there's someone suffering" emphasizes the universality of these struggles, and serves as a reminder that these issues affect all of us, no matter where we live.
The lyrics describe the various forms of suffering and discrimination faced by people around the world. The lines "Everywhere there's someone hurting, someone lower on the chain" allude to the systemic inequality that exists in many societies, where people are marginalized based on their social status or economic standing. The reference to "privilege" highlights the ways in which those who hold power and influence use their position to advantage themselves and maintain the status quo, often at the expense of others.
In addition, the song acknowledges the hope and resilience of those who are fighting against oppression. The lines "Everywhere there's people dreaming, people only ever hope" reflect the optimism and determination of those who are working towards a better future, despite the obstacles that they face. The final lines of the song serve as a reminder that we must continue to recognize and address the suffering that exists in our world, in order to create a more just and equitable society for all.
