Tyler
Toadies Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

And she runs through her days with a smile on her face
And she runs, and she waits, and I wait

We can drive to anyplace,
day or night, across the state
And in the morning, into Mexico, we will wake up

I find a window in the kitchen, and I let myself in
Rummage through the refrigerator, find myself a beer
I can't believe I'm really here,
and she's lying in that bed
I can almost feel her touch, and her anxious breath!

I stumble in the hallway, against the bedroom door
I hear her call out to me, I hear the fear in her voice
She pulls the covers tighter, I press against the door

I will be with her tonight!

Overall Meaning

The Toadies' song Tyler is a haunting tale of an obsessive love that is both exhilarating and disturbing. The opening lines convey the image of a woman who is happy and carefree, running through her days with a smile on her face. It is not clear whether this is the singer's perception of her, or if it is actually true. There is a sense of longing as he talks about how he waits for her, but it is not clear what he is waiting for.

The second verse is more ominous, as the singer describes a situation in which he and his lover can drive to anyplace, day or night, across the state. He mentions going into Mexico, although it is unclear whether this is a literal or metaphorical journey. There is a sense of danger and adventure, but also a feeling that something is not quite right.

The final verse brings the story to its climax, as the singer finds himself in his lover's house, rummaging through her refrigerator and feeling her presence in the room. He stumbles into the hallway and hears her calling out to him, but there is fear in her voice. The last line of the song is chilling, as he declares that he will be with her tonight.

Overall, Tyler is a disturbing and powerful song that captures the intensity of an obsessive love. The lyrics are ambiguous enough that the listener can interpret them in a number of ways, but there is no mistaking the emotional power of the song.

I was born in 93. This is all sorta
New to me but I love it being a 90’s child and spirit.
I like this sound I like the name and the vibe.
I’m happy these guys
Could represent and illustrate such a time.
And i must end by saying I miss Kurt Cobain and the similarities he contributed to the glorious sounds we call rock and roll.
P.s. “the sky is blue, women have secrets.” Bruce Willis much move to all
And to all a good day and night

I have to say, still one of my favorite songs of all time. I am 42 years old, grew up in the 90s, and know ALL the bands and music, and I still come running back to The Toadies, every, single, time. I still don't think they know how much they touched their fans, or how deeply ingrained into our beings their music is. They deserve nothing but the best in life! Viva Los Toadies!
