Brand New Love
Tommy Sparks Lyrics

And you can count it on your fingers
And when we come we go
She will drop it in the ocean
No, if we can't be strong
We can always play along
It's just another day
Brand new love, I feel it, I feel it
Ooh, I feel it in my system
Brand new love, I feel it, I feel it
Ooh, I feel it in my system
And I don't mind the gutter
Where the losers keep losing out
Or we can go to school.
And we can touch the void
I won't be afraid
If you won't be afraid
It's just another day
It's just another way
It's just another day
It's just another way
Brand new love, I feel it, I feel it
Ooh, I feel it in my system
Brand new love, I feel it, I feel it
Ooh, I feel it in my system
And I don't mind the gutter
Where the losers keep losing out
Brand new love, write you name on the wall
Fall into the distance
Brand new love, tell 'em no one at all
Fall into the distance
Brand new love, write you name on the wall
Fall into the distance
The lyrics of Tommy Sparks's song "Brand New Love" are open to interpretation but there are some clear themes that arise. The first verse speaks to the idea of having a lot going on, but not being able to really pinpoint what it is. The second line suggests that this person is trying to count their problems or stressors on their fingers, which seems an impossible task. The next line refers to "we," and that when "we" (presumably the singer and his partner) come and go, "she will drop it in the ocean." This could represent letting go of troubles, shedding baggage, or simply the idea of starting anew. The chorus, "brand new love, I feel it in my system," suggests that the singer is feeling rejuvenated and refreshed with this new love and that it is somehow invigorating.
The second verse speaks of options, from "going to school" to "touching the void." There is a sense of fearlessness, as the singer suggests that he won't be afraid if his partner won't be afraid. The repeated line, "It's just another day, it's just another way," almost feels like a mantra, as if the couple is reminding themselves that each day is a fresh start and there are endless possibilities. The last verse repeats the chorus but adds the lines "write your name on the wall/fall into the distance" which could represent leaving the past behind and moving forward toward a brighter future.

You have a lot going on
You have a busy life
And you can count it on your fingers
Your responsibilities can be easily numbered
And when we come we go
We come and go quickly
She will drop it in the ocean
She will let go of the things that hold her back
No, if we can't be strong
If we can't handle our problems on our own
We can always play along
We can pretend everything is fine
It's just another day
It's a regular day
It's just another way
It's just another method to solve a problem
Brand new love, I feel it, I feel it
I am experiencing a new, exciting love
Ooh, I feel it in my system
It consumes my thoughts and emotions
And I don't mind the gutter
I am content with difficult circumstances
Where the losers keep losing out
Where the disadvantaged continue to struggle
Or we can go to school.
We can learn and grow intellectually
And we can touch the void
We can experience the unknown
I won't be afraid
I am not afraid
If you won't be afraid
If you are not afraid
Brand new love, write you name on the wall
Our love is fresh and exciting, we want to make it known
Fall into the distance
Let go of our past and embrace new beginnings
Brand new love, tell 'em no one at all
Our love is not for others to know or judge
