I Said My Pyjamas And Put On My Prayers
Tony Martin Lyrics

My ba-by kissed me good-night, and I am glad to relate
that by the time I got home, I was feeling great
I climbed up the door and o-pened the stairs.
I said my pajamas and put on my pray'rs.
I turned off the bed and crawled into the light.
and all because you kissed me (Kiss) goodnight.

I ran up the shade and pulled down the stair.
I curled up the rug and I vacuumed my hair.
I just couldn't tell my left foot from my right,
and all because you kissed me (Kiss) goodnight.

By evening I felt normal, so we went out again.
You said, "Goodnight, and kissed me.
I hurried home and then,

I lifted the preach'r and called up the phone.
I spoke to the dog and I threw your Ma a bone.
'Twas mid-night and yet, the sun was shining bright.
and all because you kissed me (Kiss) goodnight

I powdered my hair and pinned up my nose.
I hung up the bath and I turned on my clothes.
I put out the clock and wound the cat up tight,
and all because you kissed me (Kiss) goodnight.

Next morning, I woke and scrambled my shoes.
I shined up an egg, then I toasted the news,
I buttered my tie and took another bite.
and all because you kissed me (Kiss) goodnight.

I climbed up the door and opened the stairs.
I said my pajamas and put on my prayr's.
I turned off the bed and crawled into the light,
and all because you kissed me (Kiss) goodnight.

By evening I felt normal, so we went out again.

You said, "Goodnight, and kissed me.
I hurried home and then,

Overall Meaning

The song "I Said My Pajamas" by Tony Martin may seem like a bunch of nonsensical ramblings at first, but the lyrics actually paint a vivid picture of someone who's so smitten with their partner that they're practically floating on air. The lyrics describe the singer's feverish antics after their partner kissed them goodnight, from climbing up doors and opening stairs to vacuuming their hair and speaking to their dog. The song is essentially a whimsical, exaggerated love note to the person who made the singer's day.

The song's lyrics also play with the idea of time and reality being distorted by love. The singer says "Twelve o'clock and yet the sun was shining bright" and "I turned off the bed and crawled into the light," both of which suggest a blurring of the lines between day and night, light and dark. The lyrics also suggest that the kiss made the singer feel so good that they lost track of time and got lost in their own world.

Overall, the song is a playful, lighthearted take on the intense feelings of infatuation and love. The whimsical lyrics are delivered in Tony Martin's smooth, melodic voice, making the song a fun and catchy tune that perfectly captures the butterfly-in-the-stomach feeling of falling in love.

I love the internet. I was listening to a Claud Thornhill cd. Liked the vocalist. Checked to see who it was. Fran Warren. Never heard of her. Checked our her wiki and that led me here. Thanks for posting.

@jasonplatt2228

She was a great vocalist in my opinion. She had many hits singing with Claude Thornhill. Her biggest hit with was "Sunday Kind Of Love". Frankly I think she was just as good as Helen Forrest but she didn't get as many top-notch songs to sing as Helen did.

JUST AS GOOD AS GOLD! Thank you so much for posting and sharing this "lost and VERY rarely heard anymore" gem from Tony & Fran that according to Billboard Magazine, peaked at #5 back in March 1950 for the duo...I thoroughly enjoyed listening...and the sound quality is TOP-NOTCH too! Let the good music play on, and take care! Ms. Elizabeth 🎧📻🎶🎧📻🎶

"Baby It's Cold Outside" inspired several other conversation duet hits, "I Said My Pajamas", "Dearie", "Blind Date", "Go To Sleep, Go To Sleep, Go To Sleep"...am I missing any?

Cute. I was wondering where this title came from, but Wikipedia said it was confusion causing jumbled thoughts. I guess that happens 😅
