Fine by Me
Transit Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
We can walk everywhere like when we were eight years old
When home was anywhere but home and by ourselves was not alone
It's fine by me
We can go anywhere making futures without fear
Knowing they aren't here, no, they aren't here, well
They aren't here just yet
It's more than we can handle
Everyday we're alive
It's a gift and it's a gamble
You cut me down just like a knife
Trust your heart and never hope to die
Down, down, yeah you'll be just fine
Trust your heart and never hope to die
It's fine by me
We can walk everywhere, you can throw my letters into the puddles
And I will just forget, I'll keep it in my lungs and chest
It's fine by me
We can go anywhere, I can take the time to catch my breath
I'll save mine for a rainy day I hope you're doing the same
We live our lives
It's more than we can handle
Everyday we're alive
It's a gift and it's a gamble
You cut me down just like a knife
Trust your heart and never hope to die
Down, down, yeah you'll be just fine
Trust your heart and never hope to die
Never hope to die, trust your heart and never hope to die
We can walk everywhere
It's fine by me
We can go anywhere
It's fine by me
The song "Fine by Me" by Transit speaks about how the singer doesn't care about the destination, as long as they are walking together with their loved one. They reminisce about time when home was not a physical place, and being alone was not only fear but a fact of life. The song actually is more about the process of life than any particular goal. With lines like "we live our lives, it's more than we can handle," and "every day we're alive, it's a gift and it's a gamble" it is a gentle reminder that we are all in this together and that we should cherish every moment.
The last verse of the song is a reiteration of the first, with the singer saying it's "fine by me" that they can go to any place together, even if their partner throws the letters in the puddles or if they have to take time to catch their breath. It is a testament to their unconditional love and support for each other. The song is about the journey of life, and when you have someone you love by your side, it doesn't matter where you end up.
