Shift On

And I'm Staring into passing cars and wondering if any of this means a thing to me.
Well this is all I have and this is where I need to be right now.
I just don't know anymore.
Focus the light has blinded you. (We'll see this through.)
Contrast with the image, as it alters your view.
Focus the light has blinded you. (We'll see this through.)
Don't conform to an image, don't let this alter you.
Your held down by change you need to find the strength and break yourself loose.
I know that your clever lies are tied to the truth.
Your held down by change you need to find the strength and cut yourself loose
Focus the light has blinded you. (We'll see this through.)
Contrast with the image, as it alters your view.
Focus the light has blinded you. (We'll see this through.)
Give up shift on full force to something new.
Let it out. Scream until your voice can't make a sound.
Let it out, its time to break these ties that keep us down.
And I'm hoping that tomorrow shines with the warmest rays down from the sun.
It's time for us to leave this place and give up out past lives while we're still young.
Scream until your voice breaks.
I know when I get home everything in this town will change.
But I'm sure when I get home the emptiness remains.
So I'll scream until your voice breaks.
When I get home everything will change
The lyrics to Transit's song Shift On convey a sense of restlessness and uncertainty about one's place in the world. The opening lines describe the singer's journey along familiar roads, but they are no longer able to find meaning in their surroundings. They are stuck in a place they once called home but are no longer satisfied with that existence. The chorus "Focus the light has blinded you" suggests that the singer has been too preoccupied with a particular path or idea, and it has prevented them from seeing the bigger picture. The second verse urges the listener not to conform to an image or let change weigh them down. The clever lies that are tied to the truth imply that sometimes we can convince ourselves of certain ideas until they become our reality. The final verse encourages the listener to let out their frustrations and take control of their lives. It's time to leave the past behind and move forward, even if it means breaking ties and screaming until your voice breaks.
Overall, Transit's Shift On represents the universal struggle to find purpose and meaning in life. The challenge of accepting change and embracing uncertainty is a recurring theme in the song. It suggests that the only way to move forward is to let go of the past and make a conscious decision to shift on.
