The quartet formed and began touring around the area in 1991. They began recording soon after and a local radio station began giving their song "Lost and Found" some air time. Dragon Street Records released Tripping Daisy's debut album Bill, a straight-ahead grunge-pop album except being characterized by overly processed vocals a la neo-psychedelia and a few very interesting transitions. All subsequent albums were released by Island Records; the album Bill was also re-released by Island. I Am an Elastic Firecracker lightened up on the vocal processors except when needed for effect. The arrangements were taken to a much more advanced level on this album, but fade in comparison to the improvements on their magnum opus Jesus Hits Like the Atom Bomb. Tim DeLaughter really found his niche as a vocalist and a songwriter on this album. Though minimalistic in some respects, the album is characterized by an interesting fragmentary songwriting style, where a song can go from one vignette to a completely different other, and still achieve a seamless quality. The production qualities of Eric Drew Feldman and the band are a marvel, as is the instrumentation and glorious harmonies.
Wes Berggren was found dead in his apartment on October 27, 1999, due to an overdose. With the death of Berggren the band canceled its tours and stopped recording, officially disbanding on December 14, 1999. Their final self-titled album was released posthumously with Berggren's father Don playing a Fender Rhodes on the unfinished
"Soothing Jubilee". Their eponymous album was a warm symphonic affair with more beautiful instrumentation and playful lyrics, which rounded up this wonderful rock group by including a new version of 'One Through Four', a song originally featured on 'Bill', and the re-recorded edition showed the progress they had made in 6 years.
Noose
Tripping Daisy Lyrics

The people around me have all spoken
I am the one slipping and sliding
When there's a noose looking for you
YEAH......HA HA HA YEAH......
Now that the smoke has all flown away
The people around me have all floated down stream
Bubbles.. bubbles
When there's a noose looking for you
YEAH.......HA HA HA YEAH..... now that my skin is all frozen
The ants will eat me tell I'm a carcass..bones still
Laying in forms as I was chosen
And all at once the noose is you
It's hard to move when the noose is you
When all along the noose is you
There's no more noose looking for you!
The song "Noose" by Tripping Daisy is a song that seems to deal with a sense of being trapped and suffocated by the world around you. The opening lyrics seem to speak to the idea that all of the days have been stolen, which sets a tone of despair and desperation. The people around the singer have all spoken, perhaps suggesting that they are not being heard or understood as they struggle to make sense of their life. The repetition of the phrase "When there's a noose looking for you" suggests that there is a looming sense of danger or possibility of harm that the singer is feeling.
As the song progresses, the imagery becomes more vivid and unsettling. The smoke has flown away, and the people around the singer have all floated downstream. It's not clear why this is happening, but it suggests that the singer is isolated and alone. They are choking on bubbles, which could be interpreted as a metaphor for the inability to communicate effectively with others. The line "When there's a noose looking for you" repeats again, emphasizing the sense of danger and foreboding.
The second half of the song is even darker. The singer's skin is frozen, and they feel as though they are being eaten by ants. The imagery of being reduced to a carcass suggests a sense of hopelessness and loss of agency. The final lines of the song, "And all at once the noose is you / It's hard to move when the noose is you / When all along the noose is you / There's no more noose looking for you!" suggest that the singer has come to realize that they are their own worst enemy. The noose represents the ways in which they have been holding themselves back and preventing themselves from living a full and meaningful life.
Overall, "Noose" is a powerful and unsettling song that speaks to the human experience of feeling trapped and suffocated. It's a song that encourages listeners to confront the inner demons that may be holding them back and to find a way to break free from the noose that they have tied around themselves.
