Piranha
Tripping Daisy Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Keep thoughts high in the sky
You're like a big kite
That's flying from people
Who want to keep you down
Down in the crowds
Where they're always breakin' out
Watch out for piranhas
There's always piranhas
Watch out for piranhas

Ready or not
Like it or not
Here they come again
It's a shame
But you are just laughing
People want to keep you in the dark
You're always a mess
But you're always a step ahead of the crowd

Watch out for piranhas
There's always piranhas
Watch out for piranhas
So many times I have been late
While feeling the breeze
Tons of hopeless thoughts in me
Now I'm free
And now I'm free!

Watch out for piranhas
You can be what you want
It's a matter of time
Prepare to be amazed
You're flashing
They're frowning
You flash the clover leaf cheer
It's a game
You're winning
There's always so many piranhas

Watch out for piranhas

There's always piranhas
Watch out for piranhas

Overall Meaning

The lyrics in Tripping Daisy's "Piranha" encourage listeners to rise above the negativity and criticism from those who want to bring them down. The opening lines liken the listener to a kite flying high in the sky, above those who are trying to keep them down in the crowds. The chorus warns to watch out for piranhas, representing the naysayers and critics who will try to bring you down. Despite the obstacles, the lyrics suggest that the listener should not give up and to continue being themselves, saying, "You can be what you want, it's just a matter of time."

The song also touches on the idea of feeling free after overcoming obstacles. The lines "Tons of hopeless thoughts in me, now I'm free, and now I'm free!" suggest that the writer has faced challenges, but has finally found freedom from their worries. The bridge reinforces the message of the song, encouraging the listener to prepare to be amazed and reminding them that they are capable of achieving whatever they desire.

Overall, "Piranha" is an anthem for anyone who has faced criticism or obstacles in their life. The lyrics provide a message of hope and encouragement, reminding listeners to keep pushing forward and to not let the negative voices drown them out.

That was a fun day, hadn't seen that one in a while. That was my first guitar lead I ever did on a recording.

I got this album from my cousin when I was seven. That was around the time it was released, I believe. Thanks for the music.

P.S. I still jam "Prick" all the time. What a great riff and solo. Was that Wes or you on that one?

This song is what helped me make it through boot camp with all my sanity back in 1995. We couldn’t have music so I wrote the lyrics down and kept them in my boot, and I would take them out and read them every time I felt like I was losing myself! Thank you guys for helping me!

@shahtan

I was 15 at the time when this one was released and the lyrics still hit after all these years, at 43.

Takes me back to the days when music WAS music! As long as I have music like this available, it's always 1995!!!
