Baby gonna break a guitar
Gonna make it a real big star
Baby gonna break a guitar
Gonna make it a real big star

Oh, looks like it's gonna rain
It's gonna rain, it's gonna rain
Oh, baby, take a guitar
I want you to be a big star
Oh, baby, take a guitar
I want you to be a big star

Oh, I was made in the, made in the rain
I was made in the, made in the rain
I was made in the, made in the rain

Come on, take it
Take my guitar
I'll be, I'll be at the bar

I was made in the, made in the rain
Oh, I was made in the, made in the rain

I was made in the, made in the rain
I was made in the, made in the rain

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Ty Segall's "Break A Guitar" convey a sense of empowerment and rebellion. The repeated phrase "Baby gonna break a guitar, gonna make it a real big star" suggests a desire to create something extraordinary out of chaos. Breaking a guitar can symbolize breaking free from societal constraints and expectations, allowing for personal expression and individuality to shine through. It's a metaphorical act of defiance, asserting independence and refusing to conform.

The line "Oh, looks like it's gonna rain, it's gonna rain" adds an element of foreshadowing or anticipation. Rain is often associated with renewal and change, implying that something transformative is about to happen. It could also evoke a sense of uncertainty or instability, suggesting that embracing the unknown is a necessary part of the journey towards becoming a big star.

The repetition of the phrase "I was made in the, made in the rain" further emphasizes the idea of being shaped or formed through experience. It suggests that the challenges and hardships faced in life have contributed to the singer's identity or creative output. Rain, in this context, could represent the trials and tribulations that have ultimately shaped their character and artistry.

Shit I actually love this song because it embodies Ty's wish for everyone else to start playing music. I'm broke and going through some hard times, but I finally got an electric on Christman been playing every day recently and playing a ton of acoustic/slide guitar for about a year and a half now. I started late as I'm 23 I guess, but I've played a few instruments for a long time now and I really think I can handle this. Love ya Ty. AND THE END SHOWS HOW MUSIC CAN HELP ERASE ALL THE BULLSHIT in life!
