I want you to see
This time I've gone, gone, gone, gone away
I want you to hear just what I say
You'll never run, run, run, run away
And when you can feel
Is when you can touch
And our blood, blood, blood don't mean much
When you look inside
And you try to hide
You see the only one
Only one
What are you waiting for?
To walk through that door
Oh, it ain't me
Oh, it ain't me
Yeah, yeah
In Ty Segall's song "The Only One," the lyrics convey a sense of longing and desire for someone to fully awaken and see the truth. The singer wants this person to open their eyes, both metaphorically and literally, so that they can understand the singer's feelings and intentions. They have gone away before, but this time they want to be heard and not be ignored or dismissed.
The lyrics suggest that true understanding and connection come from both feeling and touching, rather than relying solely on blood relations or superficial connections. It implies that there is a deeper level of emotional intimacy that goes beyond familial ties or superficial relationships.
The second verse continues to emphasize the idea that the person being addressed should look within themselves and confront their true emotions. They may try to hide or deny their feelings, but the singer believes that they are the only one who can truly understand and accept these emotions.
The chorus reinforces the idea that the person being addressed is the singular focus of the singer's attention and affection. They are the only one that matters to them, and they are waiting for this person to take the initiative and make a move.
Overall, "The Only One" is a song about longing for connection and hoping that someone will fully recognize and reciprocate the singer's emotions. It highlights the importance of genuine understanding and intimacy rather than relying on superficial relationships or external validation.
