The two main influences on the band are the Beatles and Black Sabbath, and keyboardist Josh Silver has expressed a love of Pink Floyd--evidence of which can be heard in the atmospherics of his production techniques.
The band arose from the ashes of the band Carnivore and gained popularity with their songs "Black No. 1" and "Christian Woman" from the Bloody Kisses album. The album was the first in Roadrunner Records' catalog to go both gold and platinum. They have successfully toured with Pantera, Life of Agony, and dozens of other established and up-and-coming bands, as well as taking part in Ozzfest. The band had VHS and DVD documentary releases in addition to their CD releases and contributions to movie soundtracks and compilations.
Steele died of sepsis caused by diverticulitis (initially reported as heart failure) on April 14 2010 at the age of 48.

Summer Girl
Type O Negative Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Full moon on a Friday night
Little candle burning in the window
Lets me know everything's all right
Summer Girl make me feel fine
Always in the corner of my mind
Kenny Hickey lying on the sidewalk
Devil music from the house next door
So I step on over his vomit
Through the screen and across the floor
Sweet days of summer
Her love is in bloom
July is dressed up
And playing her tune
When I come home
From a hard days night
And you're waiting there
I don't have a care
A care in this world
See her smile lead me to the bedroom
Fire burning and there's wine for two
Feel your legs spreading out to take me
Just can't wait to get inside of you
The Type O Negative song, "Summer Girl," tells the story of a passionate summer romance. The song creates a dreamy atmosphere with a beautiful summer night, "golden hair moving as the wind blows," a full moon, and a little candle burning in the window. The singer remembers his summer love all year round; always she's "in the corner of my mind." Despite its upbeat, romantic tone, the song also acknowledges the darker side of rocker life, with references to "devil music from the house next door," and the image of the singer stepping over vomit on the sidewalk.
The lyrics also describe how the love between the two people is blossoming in the sweet days of summer. The music creates the feeling of the season, with beautiful moments of intimacy, "When I come home from a hard day's night, and you're waiting there, I don't have a care in this world." The singer is full of longing for his lover, "See her smile, lead me to the bedroom, fire burning and there's wine for two, feel your legs spreading out to take me, just can't wait to get inside of you."
This song captures the feeling of summer love and passionate romance with its dreamy, nostalgic tone. It's a perfect song for a lazy summer afternoon or a warm summer night.

Instant classic. Lead singer was 6'-8" tall and his voice required no modification. Amazing!

This right here is the "Proper Version" of this song - not only does it have the modified lyrics, but "Set Me On Fire" is a part of the song. This song shows really shows the depth in their sound, and their unique sense of humor lol.

Gotta love a guy who can scream with the best of them, than turn around and sing in a voice that is a vocal orgasm. His voice alone is enough to make you fly. :-)
