Stacey Nelso… Read Full Bio ↴Unfinished Thought began as a duo in 2001 in Kalamazoo, MI.
Stacey Nelson provides beautiful female vocals [often times with 3 or even 4 part harmonies] which combine with Joe Kiser's unique studio sound of crashing industrial guitars and driving, mechanical rhythms to produce a sound that is truly unique.
They've been compared to Evanescence, Garbage, Kidneythieves, Lacuna Coil and Depeche Mode.
UT's first studio album, "Becoming Aware", was released in December 2002 on Shiverstar Records, UT's own Midwest label.
The album sold slowly via the UT website until Evanescence got a hold of the disc and began playing it in between sets on their world tour with Cold. Album sales sky rocketed and put Unfinished Thought on the musical map.
UT's second studio album, "Based On Actual Events" was released in April, 2004.
On 2005 they released their "Exits EP" on Shiverstar Records.
Lack of Days
Unfinished Thought Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
With your piercing eyes
Such a fucking cheap disguise
So pale so thin
Your remarks soak in
As I wash my eyes
And my hands of joy
To handle your coy ways
I told you not to play my game
Now we do things my way
I wonder if you know
That my tough shell is so weak
Such a charade
To force me to speak
No words can be said
To account for my troubled mind
Plastic or no there's no sense of time
Just a lacadazical whirl
Just a fucked up lonely girl
The lyrics to Lack of Days by Unfinished Thought convey a sense of frustration and disappointment. The singer seems to be addressing someone directly, perhaps a former partner or a love interest, who they have grown tired of. The opening lines, "So what's the deal / With your piercing eyes / Such a fucking cheap disguise," suggest that the person being addressed may not be completely honest or genuine in their interactions with others. The singer seems to be calling out the other person for not being true to themselves, and for disguising their true intentions.
The lines "So pale so thin / Your remarks soak in" suggest that the singer is affected deeply by the other person's words and actions, but is also becoming increasingly aware of their manipulative ways. They are no longer willing to play the other person's games, and instead want to take control of their own relationships and interactions. The lines "I told you not to play my game / Now we do things my way" are an assertion of the singer's newfound agency and unwillingness to be pushed around.
The final lines of the song, "Just a lacadazical whirl / Just a fucked up lonely girl," suggest that the singer is struggling to make sense of their own emotions, and is feeling adrift and disconnected from those around them. The sense of isolation and loneliness is palpable, but there is also a sense of resilience and determination in the singer's refusal to be manipulated or controlled.

So what's the deal
What's the story, what's going on?
With your piercing eyes
Why are you staring at me so intensely?
Such a fucking cheap disguise
Your act is so obvious and fake
So pale so thin
You look sickly and weak
Your remarks soak in
Your words affect me deeply
As I wash my eyes
Trying to cleanse myself of your influence
And my hands of joy
Trying to rid myself of the happiness you bring
Never expect me to be able
I'm not capable of dealing with you
To handle your coy ways
I can't deal with your indirect actions
I told you not to play my game
I warned you not to mess with me
Now we do things my way
You're going to do what I say now
I wonder if you know
Do you have any idea?
That my tough shell is so weak
I may appear strong, but I'm actually fragile
Such a charade
This is all a performance
To force me to speak
You're trying to make me open up
No words can be said
I can't express how I feel
To account for my troubled mind
There's no explanation for my issues
Plastic or no there's no sense of time
Time seems meaningless and unreal
Just a lacadazical whirl
Everything is spinning out of control
Just a fucked up lonely girl
I'm just a messed up and alone person
