Quiet
Unfinished Thought Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

So what if I find a different way
To face the day

To hear you say
You're wrong
But I'm right
It's my song
I'm running
I'm flooding

From the faces
That won't try to fight

From the places
That hide in the night

I'm stopping
I'm drowning

How are you to know
Which way to go

When you haven't heard
The subduing cries
In my head

I know this has been said
But I'm not dead yet

I'm running
I'm flooding

From the faces
That won't try to fight

From the places
That hide in the night

I'm stopping
I'm drowning

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to "Quiet" by Unfinished Thought seem to speak about a person who is struggling with their emotions and may feel lost or overwhelmed. The opening lines, "So what if I find a different way to face the day" suggest that the singer may be consciously trying to change their patterns or behaviors. However, they seem to be met with resistance or misunderstanding from others, as seen in the lines "To hear you say you're wrong, but I'm right, it's my song." This could indicate feelings of isolation, where the singer feels as though they are not being heard or understood.

Later in the song, the repetition of the lines "I'm running, I'm flooding" and "I'm stopping, I'm drowning" seem to further emphasize the singer's feelings of being overwhelmed or stuck in a loop. The lines "From the faces that won't try to fight, from the places that hide in the night" suggest that these emotions may be linked to specific people or situations that the singer is trying to avoid or escape from.

The final lines of the song, "How are you to know which way to go when you haven't heard the subduing cries in my head / I know this has been said, but I'm not dead yet" seem to emphasize the idea that the singer is struggling internally and that their pain may not be visible to others. They seem to be acknowledging that they have expressed these feelings before, but they are still present and they are not ready to give up.

Overall, the lyrics to "Quiet" are powerful and emotive, conveying a sense of struggle and isolation that many people may be able to relate to. The song seems to encourage listeners to be more understanding and supportive of those who may be struggling in similar ways.

@iamN0name UT is on indefinite hold due to several issues. Joe and Stacey have been divorced for over a year now, though they remain good friends. Further, Erin (live performance bass) has moved and will need to be replaced. According to Joe, he didn't want it to end here, but life has just worked out this way.
