Stacey Nelso… Read Full Bio ↴Unfinished Thought began as a duo in 2001 in Kalamazoo, MI.
Stacey Nelson provides beautiful female vocals [often times with 3 or even 4 part harmonies] which combine with Joe Kiser's unique studio sound of crashing industrial guitars and driving, mechanical rhythms to produce a sound that is truly unique.
They've been compared to Evanescence, Garbage, Kidneythieves, Lacuna Coil and Depeche Mode.
UT's first studio album, "Becoming Aware", was released in December 2002 on Shiverstar Records, UT's own Midwest label.
The album sold slowly via the UT website until Evanescence got a hold of the disc and began playing it in between sets on their world tour with Cold. Album sales sky rocketed and put Unfinished Thought on the musical map.
UT's second studio album, "Based On Actual Events" was released in April, 2004.
On 2005 they released their "Exits EP" on Shiverstar Records.
Xoe
Unfinished Thought Lyrics

With imaginary knives
And a missing moment waiting
For the next completed line
She died from lack of sleep
And a case of missing dreams
From a picture perfect wedding
It's hard to watch you make believe
That normal is happy
And everything else
Should never be seen
Memories that live won't leave
She thought of a thousand times
When she could have said goodbye
But the leaves were always changing
And her fall was braced inside
In her place there's a note that reads
Not the girl that you thought I'd be
And I'm sorry to leave things hanging
But your love was killing me
It's hard to watch you make believe
That normal is happy
And everything else
Should never be seen
Memories that live won't leave
In the first verse of "Xoe," Unfinished Thought describes the pain and vulnerability that their protagonist, Xoe, feels. They explain that Xoe has been wounded by people who were once close to her, slicing away at her with "imaginary knives." They also mention a missing moment, signaling that something important is absent from Xoe's life. This lacking component is something that Xoe hopes to find in the next completed line.
The second verse introduces the idea that Xoe is dead, killed by a lack of sleep and missing dreams. The line "picture perfect wedding with a few deleted scenes" is a powerful metaphor revealing that Xoe's life seemed perfect to those around her, but there were aspects of her life that she didn't let others see. The chorus highlights the issue of how people believe that normal is happy when in reality, it may not be. Xoe's memories persist, and they won't leave her alone, which is a representation of how our experiences stay with us, for better or worse.
The final verse reveals that Xoe had contemplated ending her life many times, but every time something stopped her. The leaves changing in autumn represent change, and even though she wanted to leave, it was hard for her to leave behind her loved ones. The note that Xoe leaves behind for her loved ones apologizes for not being the person they wanted her to be, and it explains that their love was smothering her. The chorus is repeated, emphasizing the idea that normal isn't always happy, and memories have a way of sticking with us.
