SCP Staff members:No physical interaction with SCP-106 is allowed at any time. All physical interaction must be approved by no less than a two-thirds vote from O5-Command. Any such interaction must be undertaken in AR-II maximum security sites, after a general non-essential staff evacuation. All staff (Research, Security, Class D, etc.) are to remain at least sixty meters away from the containment cell at all times, except in the event of breach events.

SCP-106 is to be contained in a sealed container, comprised of lead-lined steel. The container will be sealed within forty layers of identical material, each layer separated by no less than 36cm of empty space. Support struts between layers are to be randomly spaced. Container is to remain suspended no less than 60cm from any surface by ELO-IID electromagnetic supports.

Secondary containment area is to be comprised of sixteen spherical “cells”, each filled with various fluids and a random assembly of surfaces and supports. Secondary containment is to be fitted with light systems, capable of flooding the entire assembly with no less than 80,000 lumens of light instantly with no direct human involvement. Any corrosion observed on any containment cell surfaces, staff members, or other site locations within two hundred meters of SCP-106 are to be reported to Site Security immediately. Any objects or personnel lost to SCP-106 are to be deemed missing/KIA. No recovery attempts are to be made under any circumstances.

Note: Continued research and observation have shown that, when faced with highly complex/random assemblies of structures, SCP-106 can be “confused”, showing a marked delay on entry and exit from said structure. SCP-106 has also shown an aversion to direct, sudden light. This is not manifested in any form of physical damage, but a rapid exit in to the “pocket dimension” generated on solid surfaces.

I just want to point out that September 16th, 1916 means he was shot during the Battle of the Somme and was possibly one of the first soldiers to ever see a tank in combat as they were first used September 15th at Fleurs-Courcelette

My great great uncle died at 14 in a tank charge he was burned to death. They were never supposed to attack because of they weather but ordered it anyway and he died there not sure which battlefield I'd have ask my aunty again she knows everything about him. But anyway his dad could never take his death and became alcoholic and ended up losing all his land my family was pretty wealthy before he did that but lost he lost it all

@TheGrimeekid I served for 20 years in the Marine Corps and have been under attack from tanks twice was under friendly fire and it was not only deafening and the Shockwave from the shells were undecribable it was also one of the most unnerving things I went through and your story hits home.

Even though it wasn't shell shock, one thing to consider was how brutal this war actually was (in my opinion the most brutal). This was still a generation of men where grit, perseverance, being tough was something to be respected. Daily life was full of grueling manual labor and early death death was still very common. Life was far more difficult than today or anypoint after that time (primarily due to the advances of technology and medicine).

With all that said, these men still had huge issues with PTSD (shell shock) that shaped an entire social movement after the end of the war. That is when the French became fervently anti-war, and lead and allowed to the events of Hitler making the moves he did; because no one wanted a repeat of the horrors of that war. I feel as though even our darkest nightmares, we still wouldn't understand the terrors and suffering that accompanied that war.

My great grandpa got shot in the heart during the big push for Somme. He miraculously survived but the bullet was inoperable because it was a quarter inch from his heart. Months later he was rehabilitating and at the French hospital they would ring the dinner bell and if you don’t get there quick you didn’t get any food so he heard the bell and started running up the steps and the bullet dislodged to the surface of his skin and they were able to cut it out. He lived and is the only reason I exist pure luck.

An alternative “explanation “ was given in an army/war comic book series in the 1970’s. In Allied trenches, there would be one fellow that was tasked with shooting anyone that disobeyed an order to “go over the top”(leave the trenches and advance to attack the enemy trench). The rest of the men would shun the weird dude. It was certain they were going to charge very soon, and another soldier cracked and quietly took the fellow out and took his place. It was dawn, the order was given and there was “crazy eyes” staring at the others as they marshaled to go up. Much nicer in its own way to find out the truth about that photo.

I looked him up, and he had a good amount of tragedy in his family:

He lost his dad when he was 15. His mother, Anne Dane Rogers, only lived for about four more years after Robert died in the war (she passed away in 1919).

Robert was also single and not married, and his occupation was a sailor, according to the information I found.

Makes me cry for this man. A family lost their only child. A lot of soldiers were buried in the trenches and never recovered. The constant artillery bombardments would literally bury them alive. Plus after the war, the battlefields were reclaimed by farmers. They just bulldozed over everything and planted crops.

Shell shock is what is know as PTSD now. battle fatigue was also a name for it, shell shock was an extreme variation of PTSD because it caused extreme physiological symptoms.

"His body was never found". That's because he was blown to bits. These poor bastards spent months in trenches, walking on the rotting guts and body parts of their former buddies mixed into the mud. On November 11, no veteran is thinking of glory, they're too busy trying to shove the horrors they've been through back under the rock they hide them under so they can just live.

My maternal grandfather took two bullets in the neck, and they were lodged in bone. They decided not to try to operate to remove them and sent him home at the age of 20. He married, farmed, and had 13 children. A century plus later, they might have been able to remove the bullets. Also, this photo, I tried darkening the irises with photoshop and what expression being conveyed changed. The “china blue” eyes makes the expression be creepy.

A LOT of bodies were never found. Many more than any involved nation’s government wished to admit.
Massive artillery barrages were directed at trench lines for hours prior to ground assaults. A direct hit on a trench would tear soldiers apart in a large section, the blast channeled by the trench itself. The artillery shells were so powerful that soldiers in the center of the explosion were virtually vaporized.
And that was just one way that bodies were lost.
