Uriah Heep Lyrics

Prayin', hopin', needin'
Just when I wanted to hold you
You're leavin', you're leavin'
leavin', you're leavin'
I remember those magic nights
Those nights when it
But I knew that by mornin'
You'd be gone
And though you tell me
That it's not for long
It ain't easy here holdin' on
You gotta tell me where I stand
'cause either you don't give a damn
Or you don't even care to pretend
Or you won't spare a thought
Though you know
It must come to an end
You'd better know that
I've made up my mind
I gotta high of a different kind
And it's gonna take me
Where I wanna be
Sure I'll miss ya but I gotta choose
You can't believe that
I came here to lose
And you ain't a winner
That's easy to see
So I'll see you around or I'll write
And I'll send you some love
'cause where I wanna go
There ain't nothing to do but move
The lyrics of Uriah Heep’s song Feelings touches on themes of heartbreak, confusion, and the uncertainties of relationships. The singer is expressing his loneliness and loss as he watches his partner drift away from him. The opening lines of the song “Feelings, empty feelings, Prayin’, hopin’, needin’, Just when I wanted to hold you, You’re leavin’, you’re leavin’, leavin’, you’re leavin” convey the emptiness the singer feels as he tries to hold onto someone who is slipping away.
The second verse conveys the memories of the nights they spent together, a time when everything seemed perfect. The singer knows, however, that their love was fleeting and, much like the dawn after a long night, he knew his partner would be gone by morning. The singer then questions his partner, asking where he stands in their relationship, or if his partner cares at all. Here, the singer is expressing the doubts and uncertainties that come with a broken relationship.
As the song progresses, the singer decides to move on, in order to find happiness, “I’ve made up my mind, I gotta high of a different kind, And it’s gonna take me where I wanna be, Sure I’ll miss ya, but I gotta choose, You can’t believe that I came here to lose, And you ain’t a winner, That’s easy to see”. The lyrics reveal a sense of emotional resilience as the singer makes the difficult choice to walk away and find love elsewhere.

I am hoping and praying that my emotional needs will be met
Just when I wanted to hold you
At the moment when I wanted physical closeness with you
You're leavin', you're leavin'
You are leaving me behind
leavin', you're leavin'
You are leaving me behind
I remember those magic nights
I recall those times that seemed enchanting and memorable to me
Those nights when it All seemed right
During those nights everything felt perfect and proper in my eyes
But I knew that by mornin' You'd be gone
However, I was aware that by dawn, you would have left
And though you tell me That it's not for long
Even though you insist that you won't be away for long
It ain't easy here holdin' on
It's difficult to hold onto our relationship while you are away
You gotta tell me where I stand
Please clarify your feelings towards me and let me know where our relationship stands

Best song on the album by far! It rocks - but also has it's softer moments!

Classic hard rock man. Absolutely timeless stuff.

I had an old friend called Steve who was from Oklahoma and he was one of the biggest fans of classic rock and metal I knew and he was a professional rock musician himself (he was primarily a guitarist, bassist and drummer). He especially loved the great British Rock of the 60's and remembered when Black Sabbath took off in America. We never met in person but we chatted often on social media and we would talk rock for ages. We spoke about meeting someday.
Sadly he passed away in 2012 of long time illnesses and it is a great regret that I never got to meet him in person.
He absolutely loved this song and was happy I posted it one day.
Every time I hear it, it makes me happy but sad at the time because it reminds me of him and his undying passion for classic rock.
This one's for you Doc.

Conquest is one of those albums that you either love or hate…so I’ve read. I can see that I guess. If I heard this album under any other circumstances than how I heard it the first time, I probably would’ve hated it. However, at the time I was still kinda new to Heep and after finding out Ken Hensley wrote all (sorry, MOST!) of the great Heep songs from the 70’s, I searched for EVERYTHING Hensley I could find in my local record stores. I read somewhere at the time (probably a little more than 25 years ago) that this was his last album. So when I found the CD and saw on the back of it that his name was on most of the songs, I think I automatically figured it was gonna be absolutely perfect. I’m not a fan of Sloman, and the music was a little different, but I could relate to the lyrics, just like all lyrics that Ken wrote, so it ended up being THE album I would play every Sunday night right before bed when I was a teenager…probably because it was the end of Heep for Ken and it was the end of my weekend, both of which were kinda depressing for me. Just a personal thing I guess.

Classic Uriah heep song, I loved john sloman when i heard him the first time back at the early 80's, a few years later gary moore took john sloman to sing and play keyboards on a tour, it ended with a live album, i think it was recorded in japan
