1. Vanessa L. Williams - American singer and actress.
2. Vanessa R. Williams - American gospel music singer.
1. Vanessa Lynn Williams (born 18 March 1963 - Tarrytown, New York, U.S.) is an American R&B/pop/theatrical singer and actress. In 1983, Williams made history when she became the first woman of known African descent to be crowned Miss America. Her regime as Miss America came to an early and abrupt end when she resigned her title under pressure when Penthouse published nude pictures of her that Hugh Heffner, publisher of Playboy, said he turned down because "they clearly weren't authorized" and that publication of surprise nude pictures without her consent "would be the source of considerable embarrassment to her."
However, she has since gone on to a successful entertainment career. Williams secured a record deal, and released her debut album, The Right Stuff. The first single, Dreamin', was a chart success, and the album reached gold status and earned her three Grammy Award nominations, including one for Best New Artist.
In addition to "Dreamin'", her most notable chart successes have included the songs Running Back To You, Love Is, The Sweetest Days, Colors of the Wind, The Comfort Zone, Just For Tonight, and Oh How The Years Go By. Her biggest hit to date is Save the Best For Last, which topped the Billboard Hot 100 for five weeks from March 21 to April 18, 1992. In total, Williams has sold six million records and received fifteen Grammy Award nominations.
In 2005, Williams released her eighth studio album, Everlasting Love, a collection of covers of her favorite 1970s songs.
Vanessa made her comeback in 2006 in the US hit series Ugly Betty in the role of Wilemina Slater. She also made a cameo appearance as a sports journalist in The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, where she gave birth, the baby being delivered by Will Smith.
She's also been seen in a few episodes of Desperate Housewives Season 7; she then joined the cast and remained a series regular until the show ended in 2012.

You Gotta Go
Vanessa Williams Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Why we can't see eye to eye
And like a fool I believed
We would find a way to survive
I wish we could be more than just a memory
'cause we loved, we laughed, we cried
And there's no good in goodbye
You tell me you need some time
Some time to be on my own
Right now when I need you so
Don't know how long it will take
Do you expect me to wait
But baby I gotta go
Then you gotta go
If you must go, you ought to know
I will get along, I will live without you
And if you should leave I hope you see
I won't be around baby if you shoud leave
You're gonna need me
You might think that leaving is easy
I had no right to lead you on
I should have told you the moment the feeling was gone
What I'm trying to say is that I need some space,
I need to be sure
No, you'll never find another love like me
All around this world
Still you tell me
You tell me you need some time
Some time to be on my own
Right now when I need you so
Don't now how long it will take
But baby I gotta go
Then you gotta go
You said you'll always be mine
I need to be on my own
I gotta be on my own
Not gotta beg you to stay
But I'll be back boy I know
Baby I gotta go
Then you gotta go
In the song, Vanessa Williams is expressing her frustration about her relationship with her lover. She can't seem to understand why they can't work things out and see things from the same perspective. At first, Williams believed they could find a way to work things out, but now she's disillusioned and doesn't believe love is enough to keep them together. Despite the fact that they shared an emotional connection, they can't seem to overcome the obstacles that have been placed in their way. Williams is still holding onto hope that they can get back together, but she knows she can't wait around for him to make up his mind.
The lyrics of the song suggest a person who is torn between staying in an emotionally turbulent relationship or walking away. The phrase "there's no good in goodbye" seems to be a way of expressing the pain that comes with breaking up. Despite the challenges they've faced, Williams knows that her partner will find it difficult to move on without her, and that's why she's saying "you're gonna need me."
