Vera Blue Lyrics

But we'll still be tied by these wires
I find you there when my lovers gone
And I know we can harbour our lust
And I'm moving like I'm cruising so low
Saying what I want as I go
Got a feeling she's my only one
Leaving proof of the damages done
Fooling myself with you at my fingertips
Kept from eyes behind walls
these lies hold my time my horror and worth
Trapped within my own body
I hopelessly try to cover my ways
And I'm moving like I'm cruising so low
Saying what I want as I go
Breaking your heart just at my fingertips
Got a feeling she's my only one
Leaving proof of the damages done
Fooling myself with you at my fingertips
I want you but I have another
Needing you to be my lover
I want you but I have another
I want you but I have another
Needing you to be my lover
I want you but I have another
I find you there
When my lovers gone
And I know we can harbour our lust
The lyrics of Vera Blue's "Fingertips" speaks about the internal conflict of a person who is in a committed relationship but is also drawn to another. The first two lines of the song illustrate that the physical distance between individuals could expand, but their connection remains strong through the "wires" that link them. The wires metaphorically describe the attraction between the two people.
The second paragraph expresses the singer's difficulty in resisting the temptation of the other person, and how their lust can be hidden while their partner is absent. The lines "I find you there when my lover's gone, and I know we can harbor our lust" speak to how the singer feels that their affair is only safe or acceptable when their partner is not around.
The last verse speaks of the struggle of the singer to overcome this temptation. They know the damage it is already causing but cannot help themselves as they continue to pursue this forbidden love. Overall the song speaks to the internal conflict of wanting somebody that you know you shouldn't be with.
