On 15 October 2006, Vicky Leandros was elected town councillor of the Greek harbor town of Piraeus on the Pasok list. Her task concerned the Cultural and International development of Piraeus. She also served as Deputy Mayor of Piraeus. It was announced in June 2008 that Leandros decided to leave her position in Greek politics with immediate effect, stating that she had underestimated the workload and time needed to fulfill her political obligations and that it had become impossible to combine those duties with her singing career.

Do investierst viel Zeit
Und do verschwendest dein Herz.
Er amüsiert sich anderwärts.
Wer weint denn schon um einen Mann
Der tut
Als wär er ein Tyrann ?
Als do - do kommst erst hinterher.
Do lebst nur einmal
Denk daran.
Und was kommt dann ?
Do hörst dir seine Märchen an und möchtest verzeihn
Doch irgend einmal siehst do ein:
The lyrics to Vicky Leandros's song "Wer weint denn schon um einen Mann" (Who Cries for a Man) explore the theme of heartbreak and emotional deception in a relationship. In the first verse, the singer questions the value of crying over a man who is not faithful and wastes the woman's time and love on someone who amuses himself with others. The second verse exposes the man's controlling behavior, his obsession with material possessions and how his charm is just a façade. The chorus conveys the idea that women must be aware of their worth and let go of men who do not love them truly, even if they have to wait for someone who does.
The song conveys a powerful message to women about self-respect and not settling for a superficial relationship. The lyrics reflect the cultural context of the 1970s when women were fighting for their rights and to be recognized as equals to men. The song became a feminist anthem in Germany, Austria and Switzerland, and it still resonates with audiences who relate to the message of empowerment and self-love.
