Norwegian musician, born in the 80's, and composer and producer behind the epic electrofunk project Vinter in Hollywood.
In July 2007 Vinter dubbed the industrial noise/club that went down in the studio, Vinter in Hollywood. Later that summer a Noir video was created for the song "pain control".
Raised in the extreme metal and trance scene of the 2000 era, the influences were many. The diversity of his sound was nailed when the french disco scene came to Vinter's attention in 2001. And on top of this movement in France, the inspirations were clearly bound to 80's electrofunk and breakdance music.
In January 2008 he made "Virus", which was broadcast almost immediately after arrival at the radio station NRK P3, Norway's biggest radio channel for youngsters and hip new music. The receptions were wide and diverse but, all in all, it seemed to be the start of something big.
Since then a lot has happened in VIH HQ, an album soon to come, being nominated for the prestigious award "Årets Urørt", which is an annual award for young upcoming Norwegian artists.
Ride Like The Wind
Vinter in Hollywood Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I should be hanged for all I've done
They think I′m cool enough
To be allowed to play with guns
Are you man enough, bad enough
Are you smart enough, fast enough
In a storm, all winter long
Got nothing to hide, this vinter is warm
Turning us on
You got them angry, you got them mad
You got them hungry, you got them bad
But you know what they say now
They say that I ride, like the wind
In a storm, all winter long
Got nothing to hide, this vinter is warm
Turning us on
Hey kid!
I think you got what it takes
But the first thing you must learn
Is to learn from your mistakes
Win or loose, you get to choose
Sling your gun, just for fun
But you know what they say now
But you know what they say now
But you know what they say about me
They say that I ride, like the wind
In a storm, all winter long
Got nothing to hide, this vinter is warm
Turning us on
In “Ride Like The Wind,” Vinter in Hollywood sings about a character who is considered innocent, but has done something so terrible that he should be hanged. He’s also perceived as cool enough to play with guns. The chorus mentions how he rides like the wind in a storm all winter long, with nothing to hide, and his presence is warm and turning them on. The bridge then encourages the listener to learn from their mistakes and choose wisely, but ultimately, the opinions of others do not matter as people will always say something about you.
This song is a great reflection on how society views masculinity, and how people who possess the desired traits, such as being able to play with guns or ride in a storm, are glorified even if there’s something seemingly negative about them. This lyric is critical of this kind of thinking, but it’s very subtle and could be read in various ways depending on the listener’s interpretation.
