He is also the co-founder of the record label of the band, Psychopathic Records, with fellow ICP rapper Joseph Utsler (aka Shaggy 2 Dope) and their now-retired manager, Alex Abbiss. He is also the younger brother of rapper Robert Bruce, (a.k.a. Jumpsteady). He has a son named Joseph Bruce II who was born in January 2005. He also has a daughter named Ruby

Violent J now has a radio show on W-FUCK OFF RADIO.com, called "The Witching Hours" - alongside other artists, producers, and special guests from The Dark Carnival of Psychopathic Records. Which is now over and now he has a show called "The Main Event" on Psychopathic Radio.

A recent appearance by Violent J and Shaggy 2 Dope on the incredibly popular Howard Stern Show on Sirius Satellite radio, was extremely popular and Stern told ICP (and his sizable audience) that they were one of his favorite guests, telling the Insane Clown Posse that "you are exactly what you claim to be. You are for real."

@Nick McCoy I was wrong about juggalos, I realized in 2015 that they are very loyal, especially for their loyalty to the music. They don't suck, it's not really my jam but the production has defintely aged well imo, they do have some decent songs. They said fuck the mainstream, and political correctness, and made their own way. How can you not respect that? I've always liked the music. I was turned off for a while because of a few of the hardcore fans, that treated the fandom as a gang and robbed me and did other really bad things... I'm sure you know the type. The kind that unfairly gives the majority a bad name. Most though, are actually pretty cool people, who understand how shitty life can be for a lot of people. I respect that a lot. I know exactly what you mean. I was never really a full blown juggalo, always have been and will be a rocker/metal head, but I had a lot of juggalo friends who brought me to shows and showed me nothing but love. Being at a Psychopathic Records show is one of the coolest experiences anyone could ever have, the atmosphere alone is electric and the sheer number of people who treat you like you've been best friends for longer than you have been alive is honestly beautiful. That kind of fanbase doesn't just foster itself, their fanbase is like that because Shags and J are, people always talk shit on ICP but the unadvertised charity they have performed for their fans and neighborhood is nothing short of amazing and if you actually get to meet them they don't treat you any differently than one of the juggalos would. Truly amazing people and two of the most down to earth celebrities I have ever met if not THE most down to earth. MMFCL. Woop Woop.

I remember liking ICP very briefly in middle school during my cringe phase. Needless to say, not a fan now, but still, I hope he recovers. I may not really like their music, but they were original, and they did march to their own beat, and I can always tip my hat to that.

I’ve been a metalhead and bumped ICP since a family member showed them to me to around the time The Wraith came out. It warms my fucking heart to see the metal community (while a lot of people not being fans) wishing him the best even though the music isn’t for them. I don't listen to ICP but I have respect for them and the Juggalos. Afib is no joke. I'm on medication twice daily to help keep my heart from going too wacky. And hes absolutely right about getting out of breath easy as hell. And when it beats too fast and hard it will feel like you've run a marathon while sitting still. My deepest empathy! ✌😎🤘

Damn this is just sad. I was a Juggalo in middle school and high school. I’ll admit and I did “grow” out of the whole scene and just put it all behind me well into adulthood. However, I’ve ALWAYS have had massive amounts of respect for both Violent J and Shaggy for what they’ve created, for sticking to their guns, for fully believing in themselves and never quitting even in the face of a tremendous amount of criticism and hate they’ve received throughout their career! They are truly down-to-earth, humble, grateful and just all around great dudes. They are the epitome of success. You can bash their music, but you really can’t bash their principles and values. This was hard to hear! I loved ICP's music for YEARS! I was a pretty die hard fan in my younger days. Unfortunately, they started going in a direction that I didn't care for after the Wraith album, and by like 2007 or so, I wasn't much of a fan any more. But, regardless...I always loved J and Shaggy as people. They deserve so much respect for their contributions to the world of music. They are true originals! You may not like these dudes music, but you gotta respect their hustle, their record sales without a publisher, and their MASSIVE fan base.
Me personally, I never labeled myself a jugalo but had a lot of close friends who did. And I REALLY liked a lot of ICPs music. The darker more “rock” like stuff. Hells Pit Era, and back to Riddlebox stuff.

Violent J is one of my favorite people to watch in interviews. I loved their music in middle school. Haven’t listened to them much since, but keep up with their interviews. I hope you he recovers. He’s got a family that needs more time with him. Nothing but respect!

I really thought they should have stopped after Tempest it was going down hill from there with the music. It ain't the same it's just meh. But to know Violent J having a heart failure is legit sad. They have gone so far with The Hatchet and Psychopathic records. Damn.... positive vibes whoop whoop

I've read different versions. I've seen various news articles saying that he has Atrial Fibrillation and others say heart failure. Which is it? They're different from one another. From what I understand, genetics can play a role, but also all of that extra weight probably hasn't helped him over the years. Then the wrestling stuff while being out of shape just makes the heart work even harder in addition to the weight. It's like running out of bed right after you wake up and doing a marathon. Not good for the body. I was a fan of them in my high school years. One thing that I am glad of is that both Violent J and Shaggy have each made enough money to live comfortably for the rest of their lives, so medical bills and trying to hold down a full-time job aren't exactly a big strain. Hopefully he can get some good investments going on the side and enjoy his time with family, instead.

Ah the joys of getting older. I’m around the age of ICP. For the record, my dad had Afib and lived to 82 (and Afib was one of the least of his health issues). Stay Strong J, MMFCL!

Never been a fan, but I know this guy was a positive influence for many, showed many how great it can be to BE themselves, and IMO the best thing about them, they always kept it 💯 and authentic with their fanbase. I'm sure his farewell will be a positive one.
