You're only famous when dead,
And now you pass the time
Calling me up, asking
"Is there a secret?" I said
"No, you're just falling apart"
I saw you cracking a smile
And now your pocket is
As full as your heart
Come friendly bombs
To end this misery
This is real, and I'm free
This is what I wanna be
Cause life's too short
And I'm too high
And nobody is getting out alive
I fell asleep on the train,
And I woke up with a headache
Why bother practicing the lines
To a song that means nothing to no one,
Especially the one it's coming from?
You caught me drinking in bed,
It's either there or the car
Hallucinating from my skin to my bones
Come friendly bombs
To end this misery
This is real, and I'm free
This is what I wanna be
Cause life's too short
And I'm too high
And nobody is getting out alive
This is real, and I'm free
This is what I wanna be
Cause life's too short
And I'm too high
And nobody is getting out alive
This is real, and I'm free
This is what I wanna be
Cause life's too short
And I'm too high
And nobody is getting out alive
This is real, and I'm free
This is what I wanna be
Cause life's too short
And I'm too high
And nobody is getting out alive
"High Street Low Lives" by Viva Brother is a song about feeling lost and disillusioned with life. The lyrics reflect a sense of yearning for something more meaningful and authentic, rather than the superficialities of fame and fortune. The first verse sets the tone of the song, with the singer being called out for making a mistake and being told that fame only comes after death. The chorus is a rallying cry for a life that is real and free, rejecting the idea that life should be lived based on the expectations of others.
The second verse delves deeper into the singer's feelings of unease, with references to drinking in bed and hallucinating. The image of being caught drinking reflects a sense of shame and guilt, while the hallucination suggests a desire to escape from reality. The chorus is repeated multiple times throughout the song, emphasizing the idea that life is too short and precious to be wasted on things that don't matter.
Overall, "High Street Low Lives" is a song that speaks to the struggles of finding meaning and purpose in life, and the need to embrace oneself and live authentically. The catchy melody and anthemic chorus make it a powerful and relatable song for those going through similar experiences.
