When the sisters first sang together they called themselves the Beehive Girls, because of their beehive hairstyles. Their initial success came with the 1988 album Let It Bee, on which they recruited former members from ska band Madness to play guitar and drums. The album was popular on college radio stations, and the success was largely due to their brightly-coloured image and shout-along songs that was an antidote to the doom and gloom college rock scene. Their biggest commercial success came in the early 1990s with the single, Monsters and Angels from the album, Honey Lingers. In 1994 the other members left the band. The sisters decided to continue, recording the album Sex & Misery. The album did not sell well in the UK, and early success in the USA for the single Scary Kisses was poorly capitalised on. In late 1996 their record company refused to extend their contract, and the girls disappeared from the music industry, although they re-formed to play three live dates with The Wonder Stuff in 2003.

Voice of the Beehive Lyrics

Am just dreaming. If I ever grow up I will take care of the old and
All the babies that have no one. You might think I give myself
Too much credit but I am just dreaming. 'Cause not much is sacred,
There's not really much to do here any more. I don't feel like you said,
I walk the earth my darling but I never feel at home and we all
Say I will change tomorrow. I will change it all tomorrow. I will
Assure all of the husbands who are guilty and the wives who feel
Unhappy parents who had unhappy parents. I will assure all of the
Boys who feel awkward and the girls who feel clumsy. I will walk
Alongside the old man who feels so alone as everyone rushes by him.
You might think I give myself too much credit but I am juts dreaming.
I don't feel like you said, I walk the earth my darling but I never
Feel at home, and we all say I will change tomorrow.
The lyrics of Voice Of The Beehive's song "Perfect Place" are about the desire to be helpful, to care for others, and to find a sense of belonging. The singer acknowledges their own limitations, admitting that they are "just dreaming" and giving themselves "too much credit" for their aspirations. Despite this, they express a heartfelt desire to make a positive impact on the world, offering to care for the elderly, the young, and the vulnerable. They aim to comfort those who feel guilty, worthless, or alone, including themselves, as the singer comments that they never feel at home on this earth.
The song paints a picture of a world that is lacking in meaning and purpose, where there is "not much to do anymore". The lyrics suggest that the singer feels out of place in this world, but they hold onto hope for the future, promising to "change it all tomorrow". While acknowledging the difficulties of the present, the singer looks forward to a time when they can make a difference and provide a sense of security and belonging to others.

Such an underrated band. A little gem that deserves more love. We need another reunion tour. The 2017 shows were incredible.

Mike Keenan
It's my favourite too. I like the album version better than the single version, though.

When I sing along to this I always start to cry.

I love them and this version of the song is so hard to find, so thanks for posting. Their first album Let it Bee is one of my favourites.

Slightly bummed that this beauty hasn't been commented on in 2 years. Thanks for posting a clean version!

scobor I think it's because it rarely shows up in the search results. Youtube's search algorithm is a bit buggy, and often assumes things are duplicate uploads when they aren't (e.g. 2 different uploads of the same video but from different sources). Plus I think the search algorithm tries to give exposure to different users - and I already have numerous videos that appear when you search for 'voice of the beehive'.
