Gobshite
WSTR Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
The smell of getting caught up in your own self admiration
Left in stitches from your ignorance
Familiarise yourselves 'cause we're not going anywhere
I saw you at the front row miming all the words
You pretended you didn't know
It's all for show (miming all the words)
It's all good though
I heard you had it figured out
I'm glad we got to talk it out
The lyrics to WSTR's song "Gobshite" convey a sense of frustration with people who are self-righteous and have an inflated sense of self-importance. The first line, "I smell the blood of bitter bastards," suggests that the singer is able to detect the underlying unpleasantness of these individuals, even when they are trying to put on a front of confidence and superiority. The reference to "self-admiration" indicates that these people are more concerned with their own image than with genuine connections or empathy towards others.
The second line, "Left in stitches from your ignorance," is a powerful image that suggests that the singer is literally wounded by the other person's lack of understanding or willingness to listen. The repetition of the phrase "It's all for show" reinforces the idea that the person in question is not genuine, but rather putting on a performance for the approval of others. The last line, "Familiarise yourselves 'cause we're not going anywhere," suggests that the singer is confident in their own values and will not be swayed by those who are more concerned with social climbing and superficiality.
Overall, "Gobshite" is a scathing critique of those who prioritize image over substance, and a call to stay true to oneself even when faced with pressure to conform to social expectations.
