Wale was born to Nigerian immigrant parents in Washington, DC. He grew up on Peabody Street in Northwest DC and moved to Largo, Maryland as a teenager. He attended seven different high schools in Washington, D.C. and Maryland, finally graduating from Quince Orchard High School in 2001. He went to Robert Morris College and Virginia State University on football scholarships, and then Bowie State University but dropped out in 2004 to pursue music full-time. Before music started paying the bills, Wale worked day jobs at Sprint, Up Against The Wall and Downtown Locker Room.
Wale emerged onto the local DC hip hop scene with the help of WKYS-FM's DJ Alizay. Wale began getting radio play in 2004 with a single called "Rhyme of the Century" which got Wale in the June 2005 "Unsigned Hype" section of Source magazine and his buzz started growing.

In January 2007, Wale released a new single to radio called "Good Girls." Daniel Weisman gave the song to Mark Ronson and on February 23, 2007, Ronson began playing the song on his East Village Radio show. A week later, at Ronson's studio, Wale recorded a freestyle for Ronson and in exchange, Ronson put Wale on an unreleased remix of Lily Allen's "Smile" which appeared on a number of music blogs around the world on March 13th, 2007. In April of 2007, Ronson asked Wale to join him on a UK tour to promote the release of his newest album. In June of 2007, Wale signed to a production deal with Ronson's Allido Records.

Wale Lyrics

Telling me I don't need you
That I don't need you no more
Everybody, everybody
Telling me I don't need you
That I don't need you no more
Everybody flawed, I could never need you
Ain't nobody call, call, call, call, call
Everybody flawed, I could never need you
Everybody flawed, I could never need you
Ain't nobody call, call, call, call, call
Look, yeah
Look-look, yeah, okay
A lot of red solos
In back of the crib, SoHo
A lot of 'em is humble, a lot of 'em go Sunoco
Gassed off the likes, advice is not important
I still pray for your life, despite I'm not a part of it
I ain't 'bout this industry, but this shit be important
And I ain't in your comments, your IG look so exhausting
Had a premonition, you probably would switch up on me
The fire conversations, I miss 'em, so now I'm salty
Still want you, shine, there's haters on your mind
There's strangers in your circle, there's angels by your side
I hate to say you changed, you hate to say I've not
But fame run up and down, fame is suicide
I could never hate you
You cool with everybody, guess I'm everybody too
Still I'm thankful that God made you
We had a great run, now go run away, it's cool
'Cause everybody flawed, I could never need you
Everybody flawed, I could never need you
Ain't nobody call, call, call, call, call
Everybody flawed, I could never need you
Everybody flawed, I could never need you
Ain't nobody call, call, call, call, call
Everybody flawed, it ain't hard to see through
She accept my flaws and say, "Bae, I need you"
Went against the odds, now it's silver teaspoons
When I had it hard (la, la, la, la)
Can't come between my dawgs, tighter than supreme glue
Bitch, you fuckin' with my dawgs, leavin' me with loose screws
Break your back against the wall, have you screamin', "Ooh, ooh"
I'ma fuck that pussy hard, hard, hard, hard, hard
I bought you a pair of titties like a pair of new shoes
You left your old nigga, now your life look brand new
Your pussy like an engine, I hope it ain't ran through
I couldn't see me house wifin' you
And now it's time to part apart)
Never thought you played the part
Ain't nobody call, call, call, call, call (call, call, call, call, call)
'Cause everybody flawed, I could never need you
Everybody flawed, I could never need you
Ain't nobody call, call, call, call, call
Everybody flawed, I could never need you
Everybody flawed, I could never need you
Ain't nobody call, call, call, call, call
Ain't nobody
Yeah, and I'ma charge them like a Dodge
I been making bars throw off the lock and I'll show off hard
All these bad, bad boys will come and pull your card
I'm the man on God okay with no facade
And you mad you shoulda seent you
Hahaha, bitch I'm cracking like shit
He's hilarious
I don't need you no more
The main theme of the song is that everybody has flaws and nobody is perfect, but we should still strive to be better. The repetition of the line "Everybody flawed, I could never need you" emphasizes this message. Wale seems to be addressing different people throughout the song, including former friends or lovers, and acknowledging their flaws while also distancing himself from them.
In the first verse, Wale mentions social media and how people can become consumed with getting likes and comments. He also talks about how he still cares for someone's well-being despite not being a part of their life anymore. In the second verse, Wale switches to addressing a romantic relationship and how even though there may be flaws in a person, he values that his partner accepts him for who he is. However, he also mentions a past relationship where he couldn't see himself settling down with someone who didn't share his values.
Overall, the song is a reminder that nobody is perfect and that we should strive to accept each other's flaws while still attempting to improve ourselves.
