WHB is based on Warren's musical roots and love of soul music. Thre are 2 discs from WHB "Tales of Ordinary Madness" and "Man in Motion" have been released as Warren Haynes but both releases are focused on soul sounds and less on the bluesy\jazzy sounds of Gov't Mule, Allman Bros and other jam bands Warren is known for...
The 2011 release\tour has been focused on funky grooves with Warren's guitar giving way to interplay with the sax, keyboards and backing vocalists. Often Warren has taken backseat to the sweet soulful sounds of the band letting the feeling of the rhythm and tones creep in to your heart... only to blow you off center with his soaring driven guitar solos sneaking up on you.
Overall the sounds created by WHB have funky city groove with heart and soul a mile wide.

That guides you through a cloudy day
When the stars ain't shining bright
And it feels like you've lost your way
When those candle light of home
Burn so very far away
Well you got to let your soul shine
Just like my daddy used to say
He used to say the soulshine
It's better than sunshine
It's better than moonshine
Damn sure better than rain
Hey now people don't mind
We all get this way sometimes
Got to let your soul shine
Shine 'til the break of day
I grew up thinkin' that I had it made
Gonna make it on my own
Life can take the strongest man
And make him feel so alone
Now and then I feel a cold wind
Blowin' through my aching bones
I think back to what my daddy said
He said, boy, in the darkness before the dawn
He used to say the soulshine
It's better than sunshine
It's better than moonshine
Damn sure better than rain
Hey now people don't mind
We all get this way sometimes
Got to let your soul shine
Shine 'til the break of day
Sometimes a man can feel this emptiness
Like a woman has robbed him of his very soul
A woman too, god knows, she can feel like this
But hey, when your world seems cold
You got to let your spirit take control
He used to say the soulshine
It's better than sunshine
It's better than moonshine
Damn sure better than rain
Hey now people don't mind
We all get this way sometimes
Got to let your soul shine
Shine 'til the break of day
He used to say the soulshine
It's better than sunshine
It's better than moonshine
Damn sure better than rain
Hey now people don't mind
We all get this way sometimes
Got to let your soul shine
Shine 'til the break of day
The song "Soulshine" by Warren Haynes and Tim Reynolds is all about finding the light within oneself when everything seems dark and hopeless. The opening lines of the song describe the feeling of being lost and alone, and not having any guidance to lead you through the tough times. But the chorus provides a solution to this problem - by letting your soul shine, you can find your way back to the light. It's a message that Warren Haynes heard from his father, and one that he wants to share with the world.
The second verse of the song talks about the struggles of life and how they can make even the strongest man feel alone. But again, the chorus provides a solution - by letting your soul shine, you can rise above the difficulties and find strength in yourself. The final verse addresses the idea that both men and women can feel lost and empty sometimes, but the message is the same - by letting your spirit take control, you can find your way back to the light.
Overall, "Soulshine" is a song about embracing your inner strength and finding hope in even the darkest of times. It's a message that has resonated with countless people over the years, and has made the song a beloved classic.

@Diek454
Some guitarists can make the instrument sing. Some of the better ones can even make it talk, but the greatest and the truly honored, can make the goddamn things preach. Far as I can tell Mr. Haynes can do just that. Incredible.
@ricklogan3754
Diek454 brother you are so right
@markrebehn6503
Well said. Always makes me laugh when I hear Springsteen's line in Thunder Road when says "Well I got this guitar and I learned how to make it talk." Sorry Bruce, but not quite. This is how you make a guitar talk!

Oh how I love Warren Haynes. So humble yet so gifted. He lets other artists shine on stage too. No big ego. Just sharing his talent with us. This song says it all.
@JonnySublime
moe17moe When you are that fucking good ego doesn't add anything. All true musicians know that.

That is a perfect summation. Thank you for that wisdom. I'm missing the Last Waltz show tonight bc I'm sick, but I know, like you said, and just like the movie, gonna be tons of guests! Just saying John Mayer is from CT. Popper lived in New Haven, Trey is in Manhattan, Keith Richards pretty close......etc...

I get chills from this -Alicia and Warren. Best duo ever. This version is literally like a religious experience!!!!!
