Born To The Fight
Waylander Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Blooded to the battle
Born to the fight
Sowed in the soul
Thrill of the fight
Taking no prisoners
To die for a cause
Honour and glory
To win without loss

Prowess and power
Stealth and speed
Practice of combat
Take pain without heed
Boundless endurance
Man without peer
Natural instincts
Stay alive through it all

The world was young
The laws were true
To kill or be killed
These men were proud
And true to their word

Not modern day cowards
Who kill in cold blood

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Waylander's song 'Born to the Fight' present a vivid image of the life of warriors who are dedicated to their cause. The first line, "Blooded to the battle," indicates that the singer of the song is not a newcomer to fighting. The phrase "Born to the fight" implies that this lifestyle is inherent in the person's soul. They have grown up with it, and it has become a part of their being. The "thrill of the fight" is sowed in their soul and, therefore, the fight is what they live for.

The following lines, "Taking no prisoners," "To die for a cause," and "Honour and glory," indicate that this is not just mindless violence, but these warriors are fighting for something greater than themselves. They have a goal and will stop at nothing to achieve it. The words "Prowess and power," "Stealth and speed," and "Practice of combat" highlight how skilled and trained these warriors are. They take pain without heed, which suggests that they are willing to endure any amount of suffering to achieve their objectives.

As the song progresses, it becomes clear that these warriors belong to a different time, and the laws and rules were different then, as well. The phrase "The world was young, the laws were true," highlights that the time was different, and killing or being killed was commonplace. The men of that time were not "modern-day cowards who kill in cold blood," which suggests a sense of disdain for modern-day warriors who lack the values of honor and glory.

This band is perfect for me. I'm Irish, they're Irish, I love metal, they're metal, my nickname is Waylander (my last name is Wayland), their name is Waylander. I think I should get their logo tattooed as a band on my arm.

I have been looking for this song since I listened to it on a mixtape back in 1999. The name of the song was not written. The tape was lost before there was any Shazam. I didn't forget that flute intro and the vocal burst in twenty years. That's how awesome this song is!

This song is amazing.  Martial arts and fighting is, in my opinion, one of the best pathways to what we really are.  We all have the divine within us for sure, but thats a topic for another day.  As a species we are violent and terrifying, to harness this violence in the martial arts and in music like this is incredible; definitely a whole hell of a lot better than actually shooting an ak-47 at someone or fighting for some senseless and misunderstood cause.  Once the human animal can express its' rage into things other than actual killing, then we shall have peace :)
