The Wednesday Night Heroes started as a high school band, with Luke "the Manimal" Mackinnon on bass and Todd Rocket on the drums. Soon after looking for a vocalist, Luke decided to enlist his brother, Graeme on vocals. Lance "the Impaler" later joined on guitar. The group released two seven inches: first a split with another Canadian punk band The Cleats and No Regrets For Youth both out on Longshot records.
Soon before the bands sophmore debut, Superioty Complex Lance quit the band and Konrad Andrelunas stepped in on guitar. After endless months of touring Todd Rocket soon quit and Jay "Bomber" from the Mad Bomber Society took over on drums.
After two years of endless non-stop touring all over North America they caught the eye of Jake from The Casualties. Upon seeing them live, he took them on tour with his band and quickly signed them to his record company, Charged Records and released their 7" Move To Press in 2005.
In March of 2006 the WNH also caught the eye of the Stern brothers from, Youth Brigade and in late 2006 was signed to their label, BYO records. In June 2007 their third full length LP entitled, Guilty Pleasures will be released on BYO.
The Wednesday Night Heroes are most well known for their highly energetic live shows and humour. This can also be seen in Konrad's and Graeme's side project, Whiz Kidz.
Wash 'Em Away
Wednesday Night Heroes Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
With nightmares lurking in my mind
Need help, but get pushed away
A nuclear blast every fucking day
I got my friends just to keep me sane
With a war raging inside my brain
Boxed malls where I used to live
Now I get washed away, oh shit!
A too bad is what they say
Tough streets made you that way
No escape from a ticking bomb
Red alert, the primer's on
I wanna help, but I don't know how
I can't seem to grasp that now
Urban rot, human decay
Now I get washed away
Washed out, washed up
A too bad never saved yourself
Washed out, washed up
Today, we must do something now
Too bad never saved yourself....wash 'em away [x8]
Too bad, never saved yourself
The lyrics of Wednesday Night Heroes' song, "Wash 'Em Away" paint a dark and despairing picture of a person on the brink of a breakdown as they struggle to deal with the trauma and mental anguish that plagues them constantly. The opening lines, "Can't sleep, tired all the time, with nightmares lurking in my mind" convey a sense of exhaustion and powerlessness. This person seeks help, but faces rejection and dismissal, which adds to their frustration and despair. The imagery of a "nuclear blast every fucking day" further emphasizes the magnitude of the emotional turmoil and the weight of the burden they carry.
Despite being surrounded by darkness, the singer finds solace in the company of their friends, who help keep them grounded and sane. The lyrics, "I got my friends just to keep me sane, with a war raging inside my brain," depict the importance of having a support system. The verses also describe an urban landscape that is decaying and rotten, drained of all hope and purpose. The song's title, "Wash 'Em Away," alludes to the cleansing power of water, which can wash away dirt and grime. However, in this context, it also suggests a hope for renewal and restoration, a desire to break free from the chains of despair and start anew.
Overall, the song portrays the struggles of those who must endure the challenges of life in our modern world. It highlights the importance of having a support system and reaching out for help when needed. It also underscores the need for change and renewal, as we strive to overcome the obstacles that threaten to overwhelm us.
