For the bands second album, Hand Over Your Loved Ones, Shannon Harris (from Relish) joined on keyboards. Due to disagreements with the record label, mostly caused by Brendan Brown's wish to self-produce the album, the album received little promotion and did not sell well.
Michael Bellar (keyboards) then joined the band and they re-released their second album (containing two new songs) on their own record label, Montauk Mantis, this time named Suck Fony. In 2005 they released their third studio album, TooSoonMonsoon, once again on their own label.
In 2005, both Mike McCabe (bass) and Michael Bellar (keyboards) left and were replaced by Nicolas diPierro and Gerard Hoffman. Then the following year, diPierro and Pete Brown left and were replaced by Matt Milligan (bass) and Kevin Garcia (drums).
Current lineup:
Brendan Brown (vocals)
Matt Milligan (bass)
Gerald Hoffman (keyboards)
Kevin Garcia (drums)
Johanna Cranitch (backing vocals)
Georgia Haege (backing vocals)

Leroy
Wheatus Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Chew on a blunt wipe his butt with a magazine;
Smokin' his crack wash it down with gasoline;
Still he push the button,
E.F. Hutton when he speaks to me;
Oh you know he told me "Shake it, don't break it;
It took too damn long to make it"
Leroy is my mojo man;
Leroy is my mojo man,
He come he take me by the hand;
'Cause Leroy is my mojo man tonight, alright!
He's just a pimp with a limp and some Vaseline;
He told me to "Look, over there!" and stole my nectarine;
Said, "Don't turn your back on me black, I'm a sex machine"
Still he push the button E.F. Hutton when he speaks to me;
Oh you know he told me,
"Shake it, don't break it; It took too damn long to make"
[Chorus]
Oh you know he told me,
"Shake it, don't break it, it took too damn long to make it"
The song Leroy by Wheatus is a humorous story about a man named Leroy who is described as having dirty shoes, smoking crack, using magazine paper to wipe himself, and drinking gasoline. Even with all his faults and vices, he still manages to captivate and impress the singer. Despite his questionable behavior, Leroy is referred to as the singer's "mojo man" and can do no wrong in her eyes.
The lyrics of the song are written in a comical style, exaggerating Leroy's behavior to an extreme. The line "E.F. Hutton when he speaks to me" refers to a 1980s commercial for the E.F. Hutton brokerage firm, in which the tagline was "When E.F. Hutton talks, people listen." This line implies that even though Leroy's behavior is eccentric, his words and actions still hold weight with the singer. Similarly, the line "Shake it, don't break it; it took too damn long to make it" is a familiar phrase used to encourage someone to dance or move their body. Here, it is Leroy's advice to the singer to keep going and not to give up, because the effort to make something, whether it's a dance or something else, is worth it.
Overall, Leroy is a fun, lighthearted song that celebrates the unconventional, and shows that sometimes the things we're drawn to or admire aren't always what we expect.

UPDATE: Still not entirely sure what the lyrics are really saying or why, but three months later I now know exactly WHO "Leroy" is.
He's your mojo, man.
... I know that sounds like a pretty big pile of DUH, but the title of "mojo man" was a position I'd never heard of before this album came out. Don't ask me why I didn't just look it up at some point over the last decade+, as I don't have the answer to that question. Just the answer to this one.
"MOJO MAN", noun.
A person who has a strange but strong alliance to another person due to a social or political factor, such as outlook on life or personal preferences.
So on second thought, maybe I DO know what the song is about. The lyrics describe Leroy as a rather odd and unappealing character. Though the person speaking is the one describing him as such, he's formed some kind of profound relationship with Leroy. But, most likely, only for tonight... because they're too different to maintain a lasting friendship.

I miss the original line up of Wheatus, Brendan and his brother Pete (the drummer) are the ones bringing the magic of their songs to life, DJ Phil Jimenez never gets so old with his pipe-cleaner dreadlocks, fruit maracas and Mike the bassist just doesn't care what ever song the band plays, he's having a lot of fun. That's what I loved about Wheatus.

I think they reunited for a hometown show
