Journey to the End
Windir Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

A vague shadow lurking in the dark,
A sane man's worst nightmare,
A vision containing death,
As a wake in honour of himself,
For equal sane mortals,
It's a nightmare becoming real,
But I, I see it as the Final clause of a neverending deal,
I embraced my vision,
as it was common for me,
A fate, a destiny,

an inevitable early death Finally I'm dead,
And the vision is revealed for everyone else

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to the Windir song "Journey to the End" are deeply evocative and thought-provoking. They speak to the idea of death and how different people respond to the inevitability of their own mortality. The opening lines of the song describe a vague shadow lurking in the dark, a presence that represents a sane man's worst nightmare. This shadow is a vision of death, and it is something that many people fear and dread. For those who are able to accept their own mortality, however, this shadow becomes a wake in honour of themselves.

The lyrics go on to describe how this vision of death is both terrifying and inevitable. It is a nightmare becoming real, and for many people, it represents the final clause of a never-ending deal. However, the singer of the song embraces their vision of death, seeing it as a fate and a destiny that is common to all mortals. They are not afraid of an early death because they know that it is inevitable.

The final lines of the song describe how the singer has died, and their vision of death is revealed to everyone else. This suggests that perhaps the singer was able to find some kind of solace or peace in the acceptance of their own mortality, and that this acceptance allowed them to face death with courage and grace.

When people tell me the music I listen to depressing, I tell them I consider it "emotionally fulfilling". I feel that description is much, much more accurate.

I know many metalheads would describe his death as "true black metal death". I don't!
I feel so sorry, because he wanted to visit his family and it seems he had a good relationship to them. He died in a cruel way and far too young.
I miss, but remember you Valfar 🖤🤘🏻🖤

Yeah it was a horrible accident. His music will live on forever

Terje never called his music Black Metal, he called it Sognametal, and created a new genre. I'm from his hometown, and what we hear is unfortunately that it wasn't an accident. He planned it for a long time. His last album was also called Likferd, which means funeral. Thing is, nobody goes to the area that he went to in the middle of the night with that little clothes on. It's cold, it's dark, deep snow, no roads. You'll simply get lost and freeze to death.
