And the temperature is rising
See the factories burning
(when?) the wheels keep turning
Well, I've seen that you've grown now
With the horses you ride
Gonna have your say now
Oh, she don't mind
She got the time
I see the new moon rising
Oh, she don't mind
She got the time
I see the new moon rising
I see this small town boy now
From a small town family
He's got to find his way now
Gotta find himself a woman
With the skill of the people
He don't wanna be no whipping boy
Well, the time has come now
Gotta hit the highway
Oh, she don't mind
She got the time
I see the new moon rising
Oh, she don't mind
She got the time
I see the new moon rising
I see the new moon rising
I see the new moon rising
See the new moon rising
When the (tides are turning)
She got the (luck of knowing)
She got the (? showing)
Well, they're all in-love now
And, see the (fields are turning)
I see the new moon rising

"New Moon Rising" by Wolfmother is a song about change and seizing opportunities. The opening lines are about the changing of the seasons: the fields are turning and the temperature is rising. The lyrics are seeming to suggest that changes in the environment create an opportunity for something new to emerge. The chorus echoes this sentiment as a new moon rises. The new moon is a symbol of change, new beginnings, and growth. The song implies that whatever challenges we have faced in the past, there is always a chance for us to start again and make the most of what comes our way, we just need to rise to the occasion.
The second half of the song talks about a young man who is trying to find his way. He has lived a sheltered life, and is now venturing out into the world. He is looking for a partner who is strong and skilled, someone who won't treat him as a "whipping boy". This young man's journey is like the changing landscape that was spoken about in the beginning of the song. To move forward into the new, he must let go of what was, and bravely face the future with new purpose. The song's tone is one of optimism and hope.
