You've disappeared into thin air, I guess you had to go
Every time you leave the scene, a hero takes your place
He's a spitting image, I feel sad for that mask on his face
Are you superhuman?
Are you superhuman?
Are you superhuman?
Up, up, up, up, up and away to save the day
Superhuman
Well it's hard to believe that my friend is a freak, he must be
Superhuman
How convenient, you duck and dive when the shit hits the fan
Typical, you're spineless, you left your car lights on so you're gone
Every day is a school night when there's a sign of trouble around
I've lost all hope that you've gone to the bar to get the next round
Are you superhuman?
Are you super human?
Are you superhuman?
Are you superhuman?
Up, up, up, up, up and away to save the day
Superhuman
Well it's hard to believe that my friend is a freak, he must be
Superhuman
He ain't a bird or a plane but he could be insane just like me
No matter what I wear or high I can jump, I won't be
Superhuman
In the song "Superhuman" by Wonderboom, the lyrics reflect on the disappearance and seemingly superhuman qualities of someone. The singer begins by expressing surprise at the sudden disappearance of the person they are addressing. It seems as though this person has vanished right before their eyes, leaving them feeling bewildered and alone. The mention of them disappearing into thin air suggests that their departure was abrupt and unexpected.
The lyrics then introduce the idea that every time this person leaves, another individual steps in to take their place. This replacement is referred to as a hero, but the singer feels a sense of sadness for this impostor. The mention of a mask on their face may indicate that their heroic activities are only a facade, perhaps hiding their true identity or emotions.
The repeated questioning of whether this person is superhuman highlights the singer's fascination and curiosity about their abilities. It suggests that the person being addressed possesses extraordinary qualities that go beyond the limits of normal human capabilities. This theme is further emphasized with the repetition of the phrase "Are you superhuman?"
The chorus of the song portrays this person as a superhero, ready to fly away and save the day. The imagery of going "up, up, up" and away implies a sense of elevation and transcendence. Despite their heroic nature, however, the singer finds it hard to believe that their friend is actually a freak or possesses supernatural abilities. The mention of being "superhuman" again in this context suggests that there is an element of disbelief or doubt surrounding this person's extraordinary qualities.
In the final verse, the lyrics criticize this person's behavior. They are described as "ducking and diving" when faced with difficult situations, suggesting that they avoid taking responsibility or confronting challenges. The reference to leaving their car lights on and their subsequent disappearance implies a lack of reliability and commitment. The mention of every day being a school night when troubles arise suggests that this person is always on the run or trying to escape from their problems.
Despite the disillusionment and frustration expressed, the lyrics also highlight the singer's sense of admiration for this person's unique qualities. The line "He ain't a bird or a plane but he could be insane just like me" implies that the singer sees a connection between themselves and this elusive figure. While they may not possess the same superhuman abilities, the singer suggests that they also have their own unconventional and perhaps slightly irrational side.
In summary, the lyrics of "Superhuman" by Wonderboom explore the mysterious and extraordinary qualities of an elusive individual. The song reflects on their sudden disappearances, the replacement heroes that emerge, and the singer's conflicted feelings of fascination, admiration, and disappointment. The repeated questioning of whether this person is superhuman adds an element of intrigue and wonder. Overall, the lyrics convey a mixture of awe and skepticism towards this person and their extraordinary abilities.
