Yaprağın Kaderi
Yaşar Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Süzülüp akan yoksa ben miyim
Belki çok sonbaharlı bir özlem bu
Yaprağın kaderi düşmekmiş
Gözbebeklerinden martılar uçuyor
İçinde beyaz bir hüzün uluyor
Vazgeçmek elimde değil gerisi boş
Her zaman böyle bitimsiz ol
Kimi zamanda öyle hüzünlü
Hoşçakal diyor gözler ah
Yaprağım düştün mü
The lyrics of Yaşar's song Yaprağın Kaderi speak of a sense of longing and sadness. The singer feels as though he may be the one causing the tears to fall from his loved one's eyes or if perhaps he is the tear itself. The idea is that the longing felt is a deep one, the kind associated with fall and the falling leaves. The fate of a leaf is to fall, much like the inevitability of this longing which is making the singer's loved one cry.
The lyrics then speak of the imagery of seagulls flying out of the pupil's of the loved one's eyes and a white sadness is howling within them; this gives the impression that the person being sung about has a deep sadness she is trying to keep inside, perhaps something the singer cannot help with. The singer finds himself unable to let go despite knowing there is no use in trying to hold on. The chorus which translates to "always be endless like this, sometimes sad like this; the eyes say goodbye, oh leaf, have you fallen?" brings the idea that like the falling leaf, he and his loved one may have to part ways, and he is unsure if she has yet to take that inevitable fall.
Overall, the lyrics are poignant in capturing the emotions of longing and sadness. It speaks to the universality of the human experience as everyone has felt the pain of separation and the inevitability of fate.
