Originally beginning as a solo project by guitarist/vocalist Tyler Zanon in 2013 under the name Bedroom Talk, Tyler recruited member Cody Muraro to guest on the debut song “Grinding Teeth”. The chemistry worked out in a positive manor, so both decided to undergo the project together as a duo. After releasing 2 EPs and a full-length, Cody left the band in 2020 to become the vocalist of Real Friends. Since then, Youth Fountain moved forward as Tyler's solo project, releasing "Keepsakes & Reminders" in 2021.

all the envy behind those eyes they told endless lies
and after all the view's still black & white
Is it within where you'd absolve my sins,
and measure up the way that I have lived
with all my good intentions? So every now and then
I'll think of why it had to end It came and went
Save your breath, we only get so many chances
After all we've been through
I always knew it would end with you
And I, what good am I?
And I've known this all my life.
It's like you say there's no easy way to escape'
Rest assured I'm self medicated out the front door
It burnt at both ends
I'm self medicating
Save your breath, we only get so many chances
And after all we've been through
I always knew it would end with you
I keep talking to myself
I've been my own best friend as well
I know you never meant it like that
but it's another knife added in my back
The lyrics to Youth Fountain's song "Vertigo" delve into themes of self-reflection, bitterness, and the acceptance of inevitable endings in a relationship. The opening lines, "If you could notice me now, could you see all the envy behind those eyes they told endless lies," suggest a sense of longing for recognition and a realization that the person being addressed may have been deceptive or manipulative. Despite this betrayal, the singer acknowledges that everything ultimately appears in black and white, indicating a sense of clarity or truth in the aftermath.
The following lines express a desire for absolution of past mistakes and an evaluation of one's own actions and intentions. The singer wonders if their good intentions and way of living measure up to the expectations set by the person they are addressing. However, they also acknowledge that the relationship had to come to an end, comparing it to a burning match that was destined to extinguish.
As the song progresses, there is a sense of resignation and acceptance. The lines "Save your breath, we only get so many chances" and "I always knew it would end with you" convey a recognition that opportunities are limited and the relationship was never meant to last. The singer engages in self-medication as a means of escape, suggesting a reliance on substances to cope with their emotions or to numb themselves from the pain.
Amidst the self-reflection, bitterness seeps in. The repetition of "I'm self-medicating" and "another knife added in my back" indicates a growing resentment towards the person and the emotional wounds inflicted. The song concludes with the realization that the singer has been talking to themselves and has become their own best friend, emphasizing a sense of loneliness and the need to rely solely on themselves for support.
