The lyrics of amazarashi's song "Isaac" delve into deep themes of societal decay, individual struggles, and the inevitable cycle of violence and pain in the world. The song paints a bleak picture of a cityscape with dark industrial areas, where the air is filled with nervous tension and the streets are crowded with complex emotions.
The mention of "Isaac" and a carton of nerves sets the tone for a sense of anxiety and unease. The reference to the "joy and sorrow" of the seventh stride perhaps alludes to the constant battle between happiness and sadness in life. The industrial district blanketed in black smoke creates a stark visual of pollution and destruction, while the mention of Langston and a drama in one puff suggests a fleeting moment of escape or distraction from reality.
The lyrics further describe a scene at Shinagawa station where a coughing woman is comforted by another, hinting at a sense of compassion amidst the chaos. The narrative shifts to a dark alley in the early morning hours where the search for a criminal by another criminal is fueled by speculation, gossip, and so-called experts. The inability of villains to even have the courage to admit their wrongdoing speaks to a disturbing moral decay and delusional behavior.
The lyrics then explore the concept that if one is constantly hurt by others, eventually, that pain may become the cause of one's demise. Kindness is depicted as a sickness in a world where individuals casually tread on the spit of others. Despite facing blizzards and storms with no visible light ahead, the resolve to persist recklessly and desperately suggests a complete abandonment of self-preservation. The collapse of a mine leading to human entombment symbolizes the loss of hope, but also alludes to the eventual end of suffering.
The repetition of the chorus reinforces the imagery of nervousness, the rhythm of joy and sorrow, the desolation of industrial zones, and the fleeting escape of a drama. Overall, "Isaac" by amazarashi paints a vivid and thought-provoking portrait of a world plagued by moral decay, violence, and the struggle for survival amidst hopelessness and despair.
